WirelessDevNet.com Press Release

ACCESS Announces New CDC HI Compliant Java Virtual Machine Solution and First Customer Deployment

Tokyo, Japan / Fremont, USA / Oberhausen, Germany – ACCESS (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 4813), a global provider of Internet access technologies, today announced the availability of JV-Lite 2 CE Edition, a new edition of its Java Virtual Machine solution that supports Sun Microsystems’ CDC HI (Connected Device Configuration, HotSpot Implementation) technology. Additionally, ACCESS announced that CASIO has selected JV-Lite 2 CE Edition for their new CASIOPEA DT-5100, handy terminal.

JV-Lite 2 CE Edition provides full support for the latest Java standards like J2METM CDC (Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition, Connected Device Configuration) as well as CDC HI. These advanced Java technologies were developed for devices that require a high degree of Internet connectivity and Web fidelity while also providing a significant performance increase, faster startup, and a smaller footprint. Among the possible device applications are high-end PDAs, smartphones, TV set-top boxes, game consoles, and automobile telematics systems.

JV-Lite 2 CE Edition provides seamless integration with ACCESS’ NetFront browser. By sharing resources JV-Lite 2 CE Edition and NetFront provide an optimum Java-enabled browsing environment that is more compact than solutions from different vendors. NetFront is the most widely deployed and actively used embedded browser in the world, having recently surpassed 126 million deployments representing 280 unique Internet devices ranging from mobile phones and PDAs to digital televisions, game consoles, and automobile telematics systems from over 90 major device manufacturers.

ACCESS will be demonstrating JV-Lite2 CE Edition on the CASIOPEA DT-5100 at ESEC 2004 (Embedded Systems Expo and Conference 2004) from July 7th-9th (Tokyo Big Site, Stand Number: 5-50)

About JV-Lite 2
JV-Lite 2 is a Java virtual machine designed for embedded applications. It was developed from JV-Lite, a highly successful proprietary implementation of clean-room Java that has been licensed to over 14 OEMs and has shipped over two million copies. JV-Lite 2 is a Sun-authorized Java module that guarantees 100% compatibility with Embedded Java, Personal Java and J2ME (Java 2 Micro Edition). It runs on real-time operating systems like Linux, VxWorks and ITRON, and has been optimized to realize the advantages that Java offers for application development, debugging and portability, even in systems with limited memory resources and CPU power. ACCESS’ JV-Lite 2 CE Edition also includes WAVE (Windows-based Abstract Virtual Environment), a simple window manager
