The Discovery Channel Helps Lance Armstrong Go Mobile!


WASHINGTON, D.C., JULY 16, 2004 — The Discovery Channel and mobile technology partner Proteus, a unit of Telitas US, Inc.c are offering daily updates about Lance Armstrong and the U.S. Postal Service Team during the 2004 Tour de France, as well as a selection of action-packed race scenes to mobile phone users in the United States and Europe.

“Our company has a rich history of partnering with companies like Discovery to provide fans with branded wireless applications – from messaging to wallpapers and ring tones – that subscribers find both beneficial and entertaining,” said Patrick McQuown, president of Proteus.

The daily Tour updates, sponsored by the Discovery Channel, will be sent via SMS and available for $1.99 to AT&T and Verizon Wireless users. Additionally, AT&T mMode users can read detailed daily stage information and download wallpaper images of Lance Armstrong and US Postal Service team members. Award-winning cycling photographer Graham Watson provides the Photography. Various wireless carriers will offer these applications to European users. To sign up for Race Alerts, send the word “TOUR” in a text message to 85288 with your mobile phone now. The one-time charge will appear on your mobile phone monthly bill.

Last month Discovery Communications announced a new global partnership to become the title sponsor of five-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong’s U.S. Postal Service Pro Cycling Team. Beginning in 2005, the team will be known as the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team.
