MFORMA Launches Mobile 411 Service for QUALCOMM's BREW Solution
SAN DIEGO--June 8, 2004--MFORMA Group Inc., a leading global publisher and distributor of mobile entertainment content, announced the availability of Mobile 411, a mobile directory assistance service for subscribers with BREW-enabled handsets. The company is announcing the product in conjunction with the BREW 2004 Developers Conference being held June 7-9 in San Diego.
MFORMA's (M)411 service provides mobile consumers with access to a large menu of directory information in a format that is intuitively easy to access, and is designed specifically for mobile phones. The service provides not only traditional directory information, such as phone numbers and addresses, but also provides maps, turn-by-turn driving directions and the ability to search listings by category, proximity, airport codes, zip codes, street addresses, phone numbers of businesses and even by landmarks. (M)411's large databases include information about more than 140,000 U.S. cities and neighborhoods.
(M)411 is designed to overcome common user input errors and to deliver results quickly. (M)411 can account for misspellings, understand acronyms and other abbreviations, and can even figure out what is meant when an incorrect word is used. (M)411 minimizes the number of key strokes required for a lookup, and increases the speed and accuracy of an information request.
"Using the BREW solution, we've created a very powerful and easy-to-use service," said Matt Edelman, MFORMA's senior vice president of publishing. "We believe that mobile users will be very pleased to see how (M)411 simplifies their lives and quickly gets them where they are going. (M)411 features superior engineering, accuracy and intelligent search functionality that tremendously increases the value of the information being returned to users."
"QUALCOMM is pleased that the BREW solution is enabling a growing range of location and information-related services such as (M)411, as we believe that consumers will increasingly use these types of applications and services on a regular basis," said Mike Yuen, director of BREW Developer Relations, QUALCOMM Internet Services.
QUALCOMM's BREW solution provides products and services that connect the mobile marketplace value chain, which includes publishers, developers, content providers, device manufacturers, operators and consumers.
Publishers and developers worldwide are generating revenue from BREW-based applications and content, and 26 manufacturers have offered more than 135 BREW-enabled device models to consumers. BREW is successfully enabling the commercial wireless data services of many successful operators, including Verizon Wireless, ALLTEL, Cellular One, MetroPCS, Midwest Wireless, NTELOS and U.S. Cellular in the United States, China Unicom, KDDI in Japan, KTF in South Korea, Hutch in Thailand, Telstra in Australia, VIVO in Brazil, BellSouth Chile, BellSouth Colombia, BellSouth Ecuador, BellSouth Guatemala, BellSouth Nicaragua, BellSouth Panama, BellSouth Peru, Telefonica Moviles in Peru, Movicom in Argentina, Telcel and Movilnet in Venezuela, Verizon Dominican Republic, Verizon Wireless Puerto Rico, Pelephone in Israel and Zapp in Romania.
