MACROSPACE PROVES MULTIPLAYER MOBILE GAMING IS HERE TO STAY
London, UK – 24 June, 2004 – Macrospace, the global provider of mobile games and mobile gaming services, today revealed that Cannons Tournament, the first cross-network, cross-platform multiplayer mobile game for mass market handsets has seen more than 600,000 multiplayer game sessions since it’s launch at the end of September last year. Cannons Tournament is a breakthrough in mobile gaming, allowing up to four players to play simultaneously over GPRS and 3G networks from anywhere in the world. Players are able to upload their best scores to an online high score tables, as well as message their opponents using the special in-game chat feature.
These 600,000 multiplayer games only include games that have been played between 2 or more players over GPRS, and does not include consumers who have bought the game but not played it online in multiplayer mode.
“The uptake of Cannons Tournament has been phenomenal, considering that multiplayer mobile gaming was just an idea 12 months ago. Cannons Tournament is still in the process of being launched with many operators, so to have seen such an enthusiastic response from consumers in such a short space of time shows that multiplayer mobile games offer something really unique and exciting, which is great news for the whole mobile gaming industry,” said Kristian Segerstråle, Head of products and services at Macrospace.
Cannons Tournament puts gamers in charge of a tank with the object of the game to hit your opponent before he hits you. As well as great gameplay and graphics, Cannons Tournament contains tons of weapon power ups and dynamic weather with gusting wind and even snow. Players can challenge other gamers who are online to play in multiplayer mode, or play against specially created bots on the multiplayer server. Between shots players can send instant chat messages, and can see how they rate against the top tank commanders on the daily, monthly and all-time high score tables. Cannons Tournament has been launched with a number of operators globally, including Digi in Malaysia, Starhub in Singapore, Telenor in Norway and O2 and Orange in the UK. Users from more than 70 countries have played a multiplayer game of Cannons Tournament spanning all corners of the globe, from Jamaica to New Zealand.
Cannons Tournament uses Macrospace’s ConnectX technology, which enables operators and service providers to deploy and manage a whole host of community-based features including multiplayer gaming, online high scores and in-game event-based billing For more information about this and other Macrospace products visit www.macrospace.com
