WirelessDevNet.com Press Release
Infowave Releases Wireless Business Engine 4.6
VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 2 -- Infowave
Software, Inc. (Toronto: IW), a leading provider of enterprise mobile
applications (EMA), today announced a new version of its Wireless Business
Engine, a robust middleware solution for accessing and deploying enterprise
mobile applications. The Wireless Business Engine (WBE), version 4.6, adds
increased security and calendar synchronization to support deployments of
mobile applications across a variety of business operations, including email,
personal information management (PIM) and calendaring as well as enterprise
asset management and field service.
Infowave releases the latest version of its mobile infrastructure product
on the heels of its strategic acquisition of mobile application provider
Telispark and recent financing efforts, slated to close by the end of March.
Infowave CEO & President Jerry Meerkatz noted that today's release is another
indication of Infowave's momentum in the mobile marketplace and a proof-point
of the success of the integration of the two companies.
"Since the acquisition of Telispark in January of this year, Infowave has
focused strong efforts on integrating the two companies to bring to market the
industry's most complete enterprise mobile offering," said Meerkatz. "Today's
product release attests to Infowave's operational success of combining the
best of both companies to meet the needs of customers. In addition to the
significant cost reductions and financing efforts over the past two months,
today's release better positions the company to take advantage of a enterprise
mobile application market opportunity sized at US$1.2 billion dollars this
year."
Wireless Business Engine 4.6 provides full two-way calendar management for
mobile workers and increased security for synching to enterprise servers
through authenticated Intranet access and client-server applications over
remote connections of all types, including cellular, Wi-Fi and dial-up.
"Development teams from Infowave and Telispark worked together to build a
robust feature set based on specific feedback we received from customers
looking for comprehensive calendar management and robust synching technology,"
said Sal Visca, CTO of Infowave. "We are confident that we have surpassed
their expectations and developed a solution that increases our competitive
differentiation by strengthening the infrastructure component of our
enterprise mobile offerings."
With WBE 4.6, users of Windows Mobile for Pocket PC devices will now enjoy
full two-way, real-time calendar management between their mobile device and
the enterprise. Using the WBE, mobile workers can leave the office with only
a Pocket PC in hand, having complete confidence that corporate e-mail,
calendar and client-side applications are up to date at all times and that
they have full access to enterprise resources and applications. Unlike
competitive products that require that users manually synchronize their device
periodically, the new calendar management feature of the Wireless Business
Engine's works in real-time so changes are immediately communicated between
the user's mobile device and the enterprise.
For example, when a user makes a change to a client-side application and
creates a new appointment or meeting request on their Pocket PC, the Wireless
Business Engine immediately sends the new calendar event to Microsoft
Exchange, where it is saved in their enterprise calendar. Any meeting
attendees or resources are notified immediately. Similarly, a change made by
another enterprise user is pushed immediately to the affected user's mobile
device.
Infowave Software continues to demonstrate its commitment to application
portability by including support for several new platforms including Windows
32-bit operating systems, for those mobile workers using Notebook or Tablet
PCs on Windows NT, 2000 or XP.
Infowave's Wireless Business Engine 4.6 is available today. For pricing
