WirelessDevNet.com Press Release

Iometrix Selects Azimuth W-Series as its System of Choice for 802.11 Wireless LAN Testing

ACTON, Mass.--March 2, 2004-- Azimuth Systems, Inc., innovators in repeatable, scalable and automated wireless network test, today announced that its W-Series Test Platform has been selected by Iometrix, the network testing organization recently established by Bob Mandeville, the past founder of the European Network Laboratories (ENL). At ENL, Mr. Mandeville's ground breaking testing of advanced enterprise and carrier network technologies helped define the network industry's benchmarks and drive its growth throughout the 1990s. Iometrix is currently employing the Azimuth W-Series WLAN Test Platform to define the performance, compatibility, integrity and market-readiness of current and emerging 802.11 Wi-Fi network infrastructure.

"Generating valid, reliable wireless network test results has - up until now - been extremely cumbersome, far more so than with fixed wire line networks. It's been particularly challenging to secure repeatable, consistent results when emulating typical Wi-Fi usage dynamics such as mobility and roaming," noted Bob Mandeville, President of Iometrix and an industry authority widely regarded as one of the industry's guiding visionaries for independent Ethernet network testing and validation. "Azimuth's test suite enables my team to accurately measure and evaluate a wireless network under the kinds of real world mobility challenges that render static device-level testing irrelevant."

Iometrix is working with leading Wi-Fi equipment vendors, publications and networking standards associations to validate wireless networking product capabilities supporting the usage dynamics, scalability and performance metrics recquired to power wireless data applications of today. and the emerging performance intensive applications such as Voice over Wireless IP.

Under Mandeville's guidance, Iometrix is developing the rigorous, standards-based methodologies essential to any meaningful evaluation of advanced enterprise and WAN technologies.

Prior to the introduction of Azimuth's W-Series in the fall of 2003, many wireless testing methodologies and scenarios were cost-prohibitive and non-repeatable. This is because, paradoxically, the freedom of movement that WLAN technology affords users also substantially complicates the testing of wireless networking products, frequently rendering the results of individual device performance tests unrepeatable and therefore invalid, and static wired network testing methodologies obsolete. Mobility and roaming test scenarios, in particular, were difficult and expensive to implement on very limited scales, and many real world usage scenarios could not be tested in sufficiently large scale to provide valid, useable and repeatable results.

By allowing leading equipment vendors and test laboratories to drive continuous performance improvements in the equipment being tested, Azimuth's W-Series is helping to drive the ongoing evolution and wide-spread user adoption of wireless technologies. The patented W-Series delivers:
-- Repeatability: an isolated and controlled RF environment that provides consistent correlation of test results between different organizations and geographically dispersed sites and from one set of equipment to another.
-- Scalability: scaling from a single AP with one client to multiple APs and hundreds of clients, with varying traffic and client load conditions, and a broad range of test permutations.
-- Automation: GUI based and programmatic TCL/TK test automation allows standardizing test procedures and processes across organizations, geographic boundaries, and the industry. Azimuth lets users realize simple, effective and reusable test configurations and parameters when and as needed.
About Iometrix:
Founded by Bob Mandeville in 2003, Iometrix builds upon the activities of European Network Laboratories (ENL), the authoritative source of network benchmarking since 1991. Based in San Francisco, California, Iometrix is taking the worldwide lead in benchmarking several exciting new areas: metro Ethernet services, Ethernet in the First Mile, wireless LANs in the enterprise and storage networking. Dedicated to advancing industry testing standards, Iometrix actively drives forward the adoption of industry sanctioned benchmarks. Iometrix brings ENL's industry-recognized reputation for innovation and the experience of testing the networks of large organizations together in the lab to provide the standard-setting benchmarks the industry can rely on as it meets the challenges of advancing networking into new spaces. The Iometrix test report and other additional information about Iometrix, Inc. can be found at www.Iometrix.com

About Azimuth:
Azimuth Systems, based in Acton, Massachusetts is an innovator in wireless data communications test solutions that test the functionality, interoperability and performance of wireless devices and networks. Azimuth is backed by Kodiak Venture Partners and North Bridge Venture Partners, and is also a leader in defining widely accepted wireless data communications performance metrics and test methodologies.
