StarHub Launches ZIM’s SMS Text Messaging-Based Wireless E-mail Solution in Singapore
Ottawa, CANADA & SINGAPORE, March 8 2004 – StarHub, Singapore’s leading info-communications provider, and ZIM (OTCBB: ZIMCF), a leading mobile consumer and enterprise application developer for the two-way SMS (Short Message Service) channel, today announced that StarHub has launched StarHub SMSOffice (Standard Edition), a wireless e-mail tool developed by ZIM. This innovative software-only mobile office solution uses SMS text messaging to provide the functionality of advanced wireless handheld devices on any SMS-enabled mobile phone.
"StarHub believes in empowering our customers to enhance their mobile lifestyle by introducing new, exciting and innovative services. For instance, to stay constantly connected to their time-sensitive e-mails, besides using the BlackBerry, we are now pleased to offer StarHub SMSOffice to our business customers,” said Mr. Chan Kin Hung, Head of Mobile Services, StarHub. “This is a convenient, easy-to-use and affordable wireless e-mail and mobile office tool. Our business accounts can now use SMSOffice to complement their current BlackBerry service to stay highly productive. Users are kept informed while away from the office by connecting to their Microsoft Outlook functionality via their mobile phones.”
StarHub SMSOffice, designed for the mobile office, allows users to compose messages from the desktop and send them as instant SMS messages to mobile phones. The recipient replies to the SMS and the sender receives the reply as an e-mail. The user can also integrate e-mail, reminders and calendar items and push them to the mobile phone for information purposes or for immediate action. For received e-mail, users have the choice to either reply or forward e-mails instantly.
As well, StarHub SMSOffice features a broadcast tool that enables questions to be sent by SMS and e-mail with responses compiled in an easy-to-read spreadsheet. For instance, an invitation to a meeting may be sent to a group of users, after which the responses are compiled into a spreadsheet for a quick review.
“We are pleased to partner with StarHub to launch this powerful wireless e-mail application,” said Dr. Michael Cowpland, President and CEO of ZIM. “ZIM’s products offer comprehensive mobile office functionality at an affordable price, making them a perfect match for the SMS-savvy StarHub customer base. This product demonstrates the value of wireless solutions that link the desktop with any mobile phone through SMS on StarHub’s robust and extensive roaming network.”
