Gemtek Systems joins IDA and Intel wireless initiative
Amsterdam, March 9, 2004. Gemtek Systems, leading supplier of carrier-grade
public access solutions, was selected by the Infocomm Development Authority
of Singapore (IDA) and Intel Corporation to participate in a multi-country
and cross-industry internetworking initiative to develop standards for
global seamless connectivity.
This bring to total five telecom operators and ten communications companies
involved in the IDA-Intel Wireless Hotspots and Network Interworking
Initiative formalized in March 2003. Gemtek Systems and other well-known
vendors will provide the hardware, software and services for test-beds to
validate the open standards-based architecture for Wi-Fi hotspots proposed
by the IDA-Intel Wireless Hotspots and Network Interworking Initiative to
ensure interoperability between different operators and telecomm equipment
suppliers.
There are in total four test-beds for this initiative. Gemtek Systems, for
instance, will provide hardware equipment which include the innovative
feature to support co-existence of 802.1x and UAM. The results of the trial
will be completed in July 2004 and the final report will be made available
to the public at the end of the year.
Beside Gemtek Systems, operators like Mobile One and China Mobile as well as
vendors like Cisco and iPass are supporting the initiative.
