TELUS Mobility Successfully Deploys Tira Jump Automated Porting Solution from Tira Wireless

TORONTO--March 16, 2004--Tira Wireless, a provider of enabling technology for the J2ME™ marketplace, today announced that the Tira Jump mobile application porting solution was selected by TELUS Mobility to successfully deliver a complete catalogue of certified applications that operate on its Java-based wireless phones.

The Jump platform eliminates the complexities of bringing to market quality, wireless Java applications. It ensures that TELUS Mobility PCS customers can use any applications offered by the operator, independent of the Java-based handsets they choose. TELUS Mobility also employed Tira’s Mobile Assure certification process to ensure that every application offered meets its high standards for usability and security.

“Tira Jump delivered significant cost and time-to-market savings for us by providing the ability to quickly port applications for use across all of our PCS handsets,” said Robert Blumenthal, TELUS Mobility’s Vice President of Products and Services. “Within a three week period, a total of 57 application versions were created for our PCS service – that’s one-fifth the time it would have taken traditional porting companies to achieve this manually.”

The proliferation of Java-enabled handsets creates massive problems for mobile operators and publishers, since each device requires new application versions to meet its specific requirements. The Jump mobile application porting platform is the only technology to solve this fragmentation problem related to Java-enabled handsets. Jump works by taking a single version of an application and automatically generating multiple versions for specified target mobile handsets.

TELUS Mobility selected Jump to overcome the challenge of handset fragmentation and to quickly and cost effectively launch 26 new world-class game titles from leading publishers such as Disney and THQ on two new handsets: the Audiovox 8900 and the LG 5450. TELUS Mobility named Jump its official application porting service and requested that publishers submit applications directly to Tira for porting and Mobile Assure testing.

“TELUS Mobility is the first carrier to launch a Java program that has been extremely cost efficient for itself and publishers,” said Tony Davis, CEO of Tira Wireless. “By using Tira Jump, TELUS Mobility can also easily have these applications ported to any new handset without significant effort on behalf of the publisher.”
