Tira Wireless Propels Mobile Gaming on Java Devices with Tira Jump Platform
TORONTO--March 16, 2004--Tira Wireless, a provider of enabling technology for the J2ME™ marketplace, today announced that THQ Wireless™, a world-leading publisher of games and entertainment for wireless devices, has started using the Tira Jump solution for porting its J2ME applications. The Jump solution automates the porting of J2ME applications across multiple devices, providing THQ with time to market and cost benefits.
THQ Wireless is a subsidiary of THQ Inc. one of the largest game publishers in the world. They are dedicated to developing content exclusively for the emerging mobile entertainment arena and their games are sold in over 70 countries. Using Tira Jump, THQ Wireless can continue to ensure its popular games - including WWETM Mobile Madness™ Hardcore, Worms, Billiards, Snood, and Hello Kitty® Jum-pa Jum-pa - are available to a broad base of mobile phone users.
“Whether we are launching new mobile applications or offering our top selling console games on the wireless platform, to reach a mass market our games must operate on a broad selection of devices,” said Stuart Platt, Director of Product Development for THQ Wireless. “Having Jump as a new option for porting means that we can reach a broad base of Java-based mobile phone users quickly, without having to customize applications for each device.”
While the J2ME standard ensures run time environments are consistent across devices, the numerous idiosyncrasies that exist outside of the Java specification require that all J2ME applications be tailored to each device.
Tira’s patent-pending Jump technology solves this by automatically generating multiple builds of a J2ME application across a broad range of handsets, languages and mobile operator requirements, all from a single reference application. This ability reduces porting time from weeks to days.
“THQ is strongly positioned amongst the leaders in the mobile entertainment industry,” said Tony Davis, founder and CEO of Tira Wireless. “By ensuring that its applications work across a variety of devices, THQ Wireless can enjoy the same success with its mobile applications as THQ has experienced in the console, PC and handheld gaming world.”
