Law Enforcement Agencies Select Info-Cop and Samsung’s i700 to Make U.S. Streets Safer

Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung), the third largest manufacturer of wireless handsets in the U.S., announced this week that the company’s i700 Microsoft® Windows Mobile™-based Pocket PC phone and Info-Cop’s software is being used by U.S. law enforcement agencies to empower police officers with real-time access to critical databases – not typically available while patrolling the streets – via a wireless handset. Info-Cop, a software solution provider for law enforcement and emergency response agencies, utilizes the open platform development environment of Windows Mobile™ devices to port their solution to the Samsung i700 phone.

The Info-Cop software, in conjunction with Samsung’s i700 phones, allows officers in the field to wirelessly communicate and stay connected to people, critical information and rich applications. Operating on Verizon Wireless’ network, the i700 interfaces with the Info-Cop software and public safety information network to automate outdated query processes, such as lengthy dispatch correspondence, instantly allowing access to vital criminal background information and alerts. Via the Samsung i700 and Info-Cop software, officers have direct access to local, state and federal crime databases.

Samsung works in tandem with its strategic partners, such as Microsoft and Verizon Wireless, to develop differentiated Mobile Intelligent Terminals (MITs) and services targeted to enterprise customers. Info-Cop joins a growing roster of companies, including those in the healthcare, real estate and manufacturing industries using Samsung’s MITs devices for their mobile enterprise solutions.

“The Samsung i700 is the perfect wireless device to aid law enforcement officials because it combines the advanced technology and performance of Samsung’s wireless MITs with the familiarity of the Microsoft Windows Mobile™ OS, resulting in a mobile communication tool that is effective and easy to use,” said Peter Skarzynski, senior vice president of Samsung’s wireless terminals division.

As the number of Info-Cop subscribers grows, the system’s productivity increases, allowing users to access and create real-time records for other users to access. The Info-Cop application on the Samsung i700 is currently deployed in police departments throughout New Jersey and Washington. The combination of intelligent hardware, powerful software, and reliable, high-speed access to nationwide information enables officers to reduce risk in potentially dangerous situations and make the most efficient use of their time.

“Samsung’s i700 is one of the best multi-functional wireless handsets on the market today,” said Charley Wall, vice president for Info-Cop. “The Info-Cop/i700 solution is effective and easily deployed, every officer who uses this solution has nothing but great things to say about it.”
