WirelessDevNet.com Press Release
Firetide Launches Outdoor Wireless Mesh Router to Enable Instant Networks in All Environments
LOS GATOS, Calif., May 5 -- Firetide, a leader in mesh
networking for quickly, easily and affordably deploying large wireless
networks, today announced the HotPoint 1000R wireless mesh router designed for
outdoor network deployments. Firetide, a Best of Show finalist for wireless
networking, will be demonstrating the product at the NetWorld+Interop
conference in Las Vegas May 11-13.
The HotPoint 1000R is based on Firetide's mesh networking technology which
uses advanced routing technologies and IEEE 802.11-compliant radios to
"unwire" the Ethernet infrastructure. Firetide's HotPoint(TM) Wireless Mesh
Routers replace Ethernet cabling and form a Wireless Instant Network(TM),
which eliminates costly and time-consuming provisioning and creates a
self-configuring, self-healing mesh network. Firetide networks scale and
self-configure instantly by simply plugging HotPoint routers into standard AC
power outlets, providing a simple and reliable alternative to standard
Ethernet cable.
"Our customers told us they want to deploy Firetide mesh networks in all
environments and asked us to develop a product specifically for outdoor use,"
said Bo Larsson, CEO of Firetide. "The HotPoint 1000R is designed for quick
and easy outdoor deployments, such as Wi-Fi networks and video surveillance
systems, in areas once impossible to reach."
Instant Mesh Networking Outdoors
The HotPoint 1000R brings the flexibility of mesh networking outdoors,
enabling quick and easy deployment of Ethernet ports anywhere and eliminating
the need for trenching and laying fiber or cable. The HotPoint 1000R is fully
interoperable with Firetide's award-winning HotPoint 1000S wireless mesh
router, which is used for indoor deployments. Campus networks can now
integrate their indoor and outdoor routers into one mesh network. The HotPoint
1000R is ideal for campus networks, downtown Hot Zones, transportation
services, and outdoor communities such as marinas, RV parks, and outdoor
events.
The HotPoint 1000R outdoor wireless mesh router provides long-range
coverage up to two miles omni-directionally. Two weather-sealed Ethernet ports
are provided for connecting any Ethernet device, such as surveillance cameras
or access points. The HotPoint 1000R can provide Power over Ethernet (PoE),
which allows configuration flexibility, or it can be powered from a PoE
source. The 1000R is weatherized for deployment in extreme weather conditions,
utilizing a NEMA class 4 enclosure, and has built-in lightning protection.
HotPoint 1000R to be Deployed in Culver City
Wireless Hotspot, Inc. will deploy an outdoor wireless mesh network with
the HotPoint 1000R in Culver City, California later this month. "Firetide
products have been a key factor in deployment strategies for our clients both
in terms of speed and cost," said Joseph Hsieh, President of Wireless Hotspot,
Inc. in Los Angeles. "We chose Firetide's mesh architecture because it allows
us to scale our network indefinitely and accommodate unique business
requirements. HotPoint routers meet most of our fixed wireless bridging
requirements and we can deploy instant networks with minimal site surveys and
configuration time."
The HotPoint 1000R will be unveiled at the NetWorld+Interop conference in
Las Vegas, May 11-13, in Firetide's booth #2831. HotPoint 1000R wireless mesh
routers are now available in limited quantities through Firetide channel
partners. General product availability is in June 2004. For more information
