WirelessDevNet.com Press Release
Visualize Your Wi-Fi Wireless Network Using VisiWave Site Survey
VisiWave Site Survey is an advanced site survey tool that provides data collection and visualization capabilities not found in any other existing product. This new offering takes advantage of advanced location tracking technology and combines that with high powered data visualization and reporting capabilities to create a complete wireless LAN site surveying solution.
Kalamazoo, MI -- May 11, 2004 -- AZO Technologies, Inc. today announced the availability of the site survey tool that provides you with the most comprehensive description of your 802.11 wireless network: VisiWave Site Survey (http://www.visiwave.com). This new offering takes advantage of advanced location tracking technology and combines that with high powered data visualization and reporting capabilities to create a complete wireless LAN site surveying solution. The software and hardware based product collects radio wave characteristics, keeps track of where the characteristics occurred, and creates informative coverage maps of the area being surveyed.
"VisiWave Site Survey is the ideal solution for the busy consultant hired to perform a site survey or for the network staff in an IT organization charged with deploying and maintaining their company's wireless network," says Marc Dyksterhouse, President of AZO Technologies, Inc. "You are able to quickly collect the data and generate a detailed report of the results."
Data collection is done by merely walking the area being surveyed. A Pocket PC takes care of collecting the coverage data of the wireless network and a hardware navigation unit automatically keeps track of where each data point was collected. Location tracking is done equally well both indoors and outdoors.
Wireless LANs are now critical infrastructure components. However, most are deployed, tested, and maintained using only the basic site monitoring utility that comes from the vendor of the wireless equipment. VisiWave Site Survey is a state-of-the-art, dedicated product that addresses the coverage problems faced when developing a wireless network. The product clearly reveals coverage voids, sources of high interference, affects of relocating access points, potential security problems, and areas where coverage is just fine.
"VisiWave Site Survey has been a large help for me in understanding coverage and related issues such as antenna placement, effects of filled storage racks, signal egress, and reflective distortion," said Brian Eckstein, Director of IS for Richard-Allan Scientific--an early adopter of the product. After an initial site survey of Richard-Allan Scientific's facilities, the wireless network was adjusted to improve coverage in critical warehouse locations and to reduce signal strength outside of the building. To confirm the improvements, a follow-up survey of the over 100,000 square foot office and warehouse facility was performed--in less than three hours.
By their very nature, wireless networks are invisible. No longer can you follow a wire to the wiring closet or consult a wiring diagram to see what your network looks like. VisiWave Site Survey brings your wireless network to life by allowing you to visualize the radio waves flowing through your building. This gives you insights and knowledge about your 802.11 network that you could never know before. Since radio waves are so unpredictable, only taking actual measurements with an advanced tool like VisiWave Site Survey will provide you with an accurate view of your network coverage.
