Mobile Gamers Score Big League Fun in New Games from FOX Sports and Sorrent
SAN MATEO, Calif.--May 13, 2004--
Sorrent, a leading mobile entertainment creator and publisher, and FOX Sports Interactive Media, a leader in interactive sports programming and content, today announced the launch of two new mobile game titles, Batter Up! by FOX Sports and FOX Sports Track & Field, further expanding the FOX Sports portfolio of mobile games.
"Wireless gaming is the hottest sector of the business right now," said Ross Levinsohn, SVP and general manager of FOX Sports Interactive Media. "For the past year and through six outstanding titles, Sorrent has helped us set the standard in mobile gaming. With these two new titles we believe we will continue our winning streak with consumers."
Playing Batter Up! by FOX Sports, fans can step out of the on-deck circle and begin their career as a rookie in the minor leagues. As their home run hitting skills improve, they can advance through the majors and eventually become an All-Star. Consumers will have the choice of facing one of four pitchers, putting their big league talents in the batters box against hard-throwing veterans. Special features of the game include exploding scoreboards, stadium fireworks, detailed renditions of fans in the bleachers and home run balls shattering windshields on parked cars.
Scoring a 9 out of 10 in a review on popular gaming site IGN.com, FOX Sports Track & Field is "easy to pick up, yet impossible to put down until you are the absolute master." This game includes two difficulty levels and four events -- 110m hurdles, javelin throw, long jump and hammer throw -- and features a tournament mode, allowing you to compete with up to ten friends on your phone. Gamers are given three tries to go for the gold medal in each event to collect a high score for the entire track meet.
Batter Up! by FOX Sports and FOX Sports Track & Field are available for purchase and download on both Java- and BREW-enabled phones, via wireless carriers. Also released this quarter for mobile phones are FOX Sports Soccer and FOX Sports Hockey. For more information, visit www.sorrent.com or www.foxsports.com, keyword "mobile."
