New Motorola Linux-Based Mobile Phones Built on Trolltech Platform
PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Nov. 9, 2004 -- Trolltech(R), provider of leading technologies for Linux and cross-platform software development, today announced that Motorola has chosen Trolltech's Qt(R)/Embedded Linux development platform as the foundation for its upcoming E680 and A780 mobile phones. The E680 and A780 represent the latest in a series of handsets Motorola is building on the Trolltech/Linux platform, following the Motorola A760 phone announced last year.

Trolltech: Bringing Linux to Mobile Devices
The Motorola E680 and A780 phones are built using Trolltech's Qt/Embedded technology, part of Trolltech's product line for Linux-based mobile devices. In addition to Qt/Embedded, Trolltech also offers Qtopia(R), a complete, customizable application platform and user interface for Linux-based mobile phones and PDAs. With Qt/Embedded or Qtopia as the development platform, mobile phone manufacturers and service providers can cost-effectively develop software, while maintaining control of their own branding and user interface. Trolltech development platforms extend the flexibility and cost-savings benefits of Linux to mobile devices, serving as an alternative to proprietary platforms such as Windows Mobile and Symbian.

The Motorola E680: Entertainment Hub Built on Trolltech Technology
The Linux-based Motorola E680 handset is designed to provide the ultimate entertainment experience, merging music, pictures, videos, gaming, talk and text in a simple, palm-sized device. With Bluetooth wireless technology, the E680 also boasts 3D stereo surround sound speaker, MP3 download/playback and embedded MIDI music ring tones. The Motorola A780: Sophisticated and Feature-Packed
The Motorola A780, built on Linux using Trolltech technology, is a sleek, next-generation phone designed for the mobile users who demand more. It includes a color touch screen, advanced MOTOSYNC over-the-air synchronization of corporate email, advanced contact and calendar, as well as entertainment features such as an MP3 player, 1.3 megapixel camera and 3D games.
