QUALCOMM Announces Availability of Security Features for OmniTRACS Satellite Mobile Communications
LAS VEGAS, Oct. 4 -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq:
QCOM), a leader in providing wireless data solutions, today announced the
availability of new security features for the OmniTRACS(R) satellite mobile
communications solution. The new features include the availability of a
Vehicle Immobilization Device and a Security Integration Package.
The new product capabilities enrich the security of the OmniTRACS
solution, offering enhanced protection to high-value and hazardous materials
cargo and personnel. The new features include:
Vehicle Immobilization Device (VID): The VID, when connected to the
OmniTRACS mobile communications solution, enables the authorized
operator of the truck to put the vehicle into a "restricted mobility"
condition. When used with the Wireless Panic Button -- a wireless
transmitter for use outside the vehicle -- the VID feature increases
the security of a truck's load and its driver. In addition to working
with the VID, the Wireless Panic Button allows drivers to send
emergency notifications with their current locations. Panic message
alerts are simultaneously sent to the customer's dispatch and
QUALCOMM's Network Operations Center. QUALCOMM has deployed thousands
of Wireless Panic Buttons with U.S. customers.
Security Integration Package: OmniTRACS now has available, QUALCOMM's
high-value or high-risk load monitoring application, allowing
companies to customize the frequency of vehicle position reports based
on commodity codes, high-risk areas or out-of-route violations.
Companies can receive an exception alert if a vehicle has made an
unauthorized stop or trailer drop, turns off the truck's ignition
prior to delivery or fails to report in to dispatch in keeping with
the customer's set parameters. In addition, customized route alerts
can be dispatched via pager or e-mail to specified users according to
the severity of the exception.
"These new features increase the security value proposition of OmniTRACS
for hazardous materials and high-value cargo carriers," said Mark Bauckman,
director of business development for QUALCOMM Wireless Business Solutions.
"By leveraging OmniTRACS and its new features, carriers can now raise the in-
transit visibility of their fleets while improving productivity and security."
The Vehicle Immobilization Device and Security Integration Package have
already been deployed with a number of high-value cargo and hazardous
materials carriers throughout the United States.
