Symbian OS Applications Sales Double in First Half 2004Through Handango And Its Channel Partners
Symbian Expo, London, UK – – Symbian Limited today announced at Symbian Expo - the smartphone show dedicated entirely to the smartphone industry - that Symbian OS™ applications are the most successful smartphone applications on Handango, the leading provider of mobile downloads for phones and handhelds. Furthermore, Handango’s Symbian OS application sales increased more than 100% compared to the first half of 2003. The average customer bought 18% more applications for Symbian OS mobile phones than the average customer for other leading mobile OSs.
Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS, the leading operating system that powers the most popular smartphones. As a Platinum Partner, Handango continues to support Symbian's ecosystem of developers, partners and licensees by delivering thousands of Symbian OS applications to customers through its market-leading application management and provisioning platform, Handango AMPP. In addition to its own portal, www.handango.com, Handango provides the Sony Ericsson Application Shop and the Symbian download portals for My-Symbian, Yahoo!, Cingular Wireless, AOL and localized versions of the Handango-branded portal for Germany, France and the United Kingdom. All sales figures are based upon aggregate sales across the Handango channel network.
In 2004, the number of third party applications for Symbian OS available on Handango increased by over 80%. Handango customers bought more applications on average for Symbian OS phones per order than any other OS and these applications had the second highest average selling price (ASP) for any OS. These statistics demonstrate the value that Symbian OS applications and phones bring to their users. In Q1 and Q22004, the Sony Ericsson P800 /P900 smartphone was the top phone for application purchases. The Nokia 7650/3650 and 6600 were also included in the top five phones for application purchases on Handango.
