WiggleWireless, Inc. Launches Ironman Wireless, Up-to-the-minute Ironman Action to your Mobile Phone
SAN DIEGO – October 11, 2004 – WiggleWireless, Inc., an innovator in bringing coverage of live events directly to mobile phones, announced today the launch of Ironman Wireless (www.ironmanwireless.com), a subscription-based service bringing up-to-the-minute updates of the 2004 Ironman Triathlon World Championship to mobile phones via text messaging.
For the first time ever, avid Ironman fans, athletes and sponsors worldwide will be able to get timely updates on the more than 1,700 Ironman contestants in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii on October 16. Fans can follow the swimming, running and biking via their mobile phones – getting athlete’s split times, color commentary, weather and more. The service is a partnership with Triathlete Magazine and World Triathlon Corporation and a subscription is a one-time charge of $9.95.
"Races like the Triathlon Championship attract major television sponsors but the massive scope and terrain of the race usually prevents them from covering it live,” said Jeff Pokonosky, president of WiggleWireless. “Avid sports fans want up-to-the-minute updates, which is why we created Ironman Wireless – to bring the excitement of these large-scale, live events to die-hard fans around the world anywhere they are.”
Ironman Wireless is offering up to five distinct channels covering every detail of the 2004 Hawaii Ironman to U.S. and international subscribers, including:
Channel 1: Athlete Tracker – Real-time athlete splits for IronmanLive. Know where your athlete stands throughout the race without waiting for the evening news. Subscribers are able to choose up to 3 athletes to track and have up to 11 split times sent directly to their mobile phones during the first 17 hours of IronMan Hawaii.
Channel 2: Live Color Commentary – Triathlete Magazine brings the race to life with color commentary every 15 minutes. Find out who beats expectations or falls short. (available throughout first 10 hours on Oct. 16 only)
Channel 3: Up-to-Date Weather/Course Conditions – The weather is a big concern for athletes and fans alike. This channel keeps trainers, officials, athletes, sponsors and medical staff prepared for various weather and terrain conditions on Kona. An update is sent once a day leading up to the competition (Oct. 13-15) and every three hours during the race.
Channel 4: Exclusive Pre-Event Info – Triathlete Magazine and IronmanLive bring subscribers the lowdown on all pre-event activities, interviews with athletes, and course preparations during the three-day countdown to race time. Updates are sent up to six times a day during the three days leading up to the race (Oct. 13-15).
Channel 5: Insightful Post-Event Wrap-Up – Ironman Wireless partners with Triathlete Magazine and IronmanLive to bring subscribers the inside scoop on wrap-up activities, winners and after parties! Updates are sent up to six times a day on Oct. 16 and 17.
From today until Oct. 16, fans can subscribe to the WiggleWireless messaging service by logging on to www.ironmanwireless.com or www.wigglewireless.com.
