Vivato Launches 802.11g Extended Range Wi-Fi Base Station

SAN MATEO, Calif., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Vivato, a scalable Wi-Fi systems infrastructure company, today unveiled its new 802.11g Outdoor Wi-Fi base station. The new VivatoŽ base station enables up to 54Mbps data rates at distances extending up to 12 times farther than traditional 802.11g products. The additional coverage enables customers to cost effectively deploy and manage 802.11g-based networks in areas that are otherwise difficult to deploy. The 802.11g Wi-Fi base station (model number VP2210), in combination with Vivato's 802.11b base stations and micro and pico cells, allows cost effective, highly scalable Wi-Fi deployments both indoors and outdoors.

"VeriLAN has been successfully using Vivato products for the last year. Now we have integrated Vivato's new 802.11g outdoor base station into our network," said Steven Schroedl, president and CEO, VeriLAN. "With the addition of the extended range 802.11g into our network, customers will be able to use more data-rich applications such as streaming video, VoIP as well as access and distribute large files throughout the network."

Markets that will benefit from Vivato's extended range 802.1lg base stations include education, logistics, resorts and hotels, metropolitan networks, public access networks, public safety and large public venues such as arenas and sports stadiums, as well as government. "The ability to deploy 802.11g networks cost effectively will benefit markets that rely on high-speed communications to perform mission-critical work and expand their wireless networks," said Philip Marshall, director, wireless/mobile technologies, Yankee Group. "Technologies like Vivato's smart antennae-based Wi-Fi systems are enabling users to transform hot spots into hot zones, and in the process, increase the coverage area of Wi-Fi."

A unique phased array antenna design allows Vivato to greatly extend the reach of industry standard 802.11b and 802.11g signals, enabling standard Wi-Fi clients to communicate over much greater distances. This, combined with Vivato's unique systems approach and family of products, including base stations and access points (APs/bridges), allows customers to optimize network design for cost, bandwidth and coverage.

"We are committed to providing our customers with superior Wi-Fi coverage that also delivers the best possible economics and total cost of ownership (TCO) through a scalable, systems approach," said Chris DeMarche, senior vice president of marketing and business development for Vivato. "With the new 802.11g outdoor Wi-Fi base station, Vivato is building on its family of Wi-Fi products to better fulfill a range of customer requirements in a cost effective package. As evidenced by our growing customer list, we consistently architect systems that deliver large-scale coverage and excellent performance, while achieving the lowest TCO compared to any other systems solution provider today."
