LightSurf Discusses Best Practices For Delivering on The Promise of MMS

LONDON--Oct. 15, 2004-- Imaging Industry Veteran Dennis Hamann Presents Current Successes and Challenges for MMS during Implementations Conference

LightSurf Technologies, Inc., the global leader in open standards multimedia messaging and interoperability solutions, today announced that Dennis Hamann, Managing Director of LightSurf International, will be a featured speaker at the upcoming MMS Implementations conference in London on the 20th and 21st of October. Mr. Hamann, an imaging industry veteran, will discuss how wireless carriers can deliver on the promise of multimedia messaging services (MMS), while highlighting industry successes and challenges.

LightSurf is leading the MMS solutions market with deployments across Europe, North America, Latin America, and Asia. LightSurf's integrated approach to MMS closely links the Internet with wireless messaging, creating an unsurpassed user experience that reflects how consumers really use their camera phones. This unique approach helps LightSurf customers to drive MMS volume and revenue to record levels, and enjoy considerable success in the marketplace. For example, Sprint PCS, a leading LightSurf customer in North America using LightSurf's PictureMail service, recently announced the delivery of more than 270 million messages in the time period from August 2002 to September 2004 -- messaging volumes that easily dwarf that of other carriers.

Wireless carriers have been waiting for the revenue growth that MMS was supposed to provide, but initial consumer adoption has not met expectations. Few wireless carriers have generated any significant revenue from MMS. With the right applications and approach, wireless carriers can achieve great success with MMS. For example, with LightSurf PictureMail, Sprint PCS increased average revenue per user (ARPU), while reducing subscriber turnover (churn).

Mr. Hamann will discuss: "How to deliver on the promise of MMS" with examples and emphasis on the following recommendations:

  • Delight the consumer from the very beginning of their multimedia messaging experience

  • Educate the consumer through promotions and simple functionality that will allow them to experience the benefits of multimedia messaging

  • Pursue an outsourcing strategy for MMS infrastructure -- both to conserve capital and to allow rapid innovation for an evolving market

The MMS Implementations conference is being held in London, UK, at the Mayfair Conference Centre on the 20th and 21st of October 2004. Mr. Hamann's informative discussion, entitled "How to Deliver on the Promise of MMS," is scheduled for the 21st of October 2004 at 16:15 (4:15 p.m.) GMT.
