HP Enables Industry’s First Remote Printing of Digital Images From Camera Phones
TOKYO, Japan, October 4, 2004 – HP today announced a new mobile phone printing application, HP Instant Share for EZ (BREW), which enables select KDDI mobile phone users to send and print digital images to a remote HP all-in-one printer1. A first in the industry2, this service provides consumers with the ability to print and share digital images anywhere in Japan, thus bringing a whole new level of wireleless functionality and convenience to mobile phone users.
“In Japan, the camera phone market has exploded. As the resolution of camera phones continues to increase, we expect that more and more mobile phone users will want to print their photos,” said Gregg Patterson, vice president, solutions and technology, Consumer Imaging and Printing, HP.
“We are pleased to work with KDDI to expand the functionality of HP Instant Share so that KDDI’s mobile phone users can effortlessly share and print their digital images straight to their homes or the homes of friends and family for ultimate convenience.”
This unique solution was demonstrated last week in the KDDI, Ltd. booth at CEATEC Japan 2004.
“We are thrilled with the opportunity to provide our customers with HP’s robust innovative wireless printing platform,” said Takashi Shigeno, director of KDDI’s Mobile Service Planning Department. “HP’s innovative, BREW-based application provides consumers with a customizable handset solution that fulfills all of their mobile imaging needs.”
This new wireless application allows consumers to capture and print photos, making it easy to immediately share meaningful memories almost anywhere.
Users simply specify the HP inkjet printer from the HP Instant Share for EZ application program screen and send the captured image to the selected printer – just by pushing a button.
