CLX’s PollCast, Powered By Air2Web, Averages 70% Response Rate From Text Message Campaigns
October 19, 2004. Atlanta, Georgia. CLX, a wireless permission based marketing company, is using Air2Web’s 2Notify solution to develop and power its opt-in text message application, PollCastTM. Over 20 instant market intelligence polls have been conducted for major retailers, consumer brands, and marketing companies, and the subscriber base is providing over a 70% response rate to the simple text message queries.
CLX's clients have the ability to use PollCast to precisely target its audience at any level of granularity and analyze the results in minutes and hours, rather than days and weeks. Clients view these results from the convenience of their desktop and have the opportunity to view detail demographics of the respondents. This speed, accuracy, and efficiency provide clients with a strategic competitive advantage since they are able to mitigate decision-making risks in a rapidly changing marketplace.
Marriott International, BellSouth, EDS, and Hydrade are several of the companies developing and launching pilot programs with CLX. PollCast campaigns, to date, have focused on consumer brands such as sports drinks, athletic gear, clothing outlets, and current events like the recent presidential debates.
The PollCast subscriber base, called the MemberMatrixTM, is comprised of opt-in users from around the country. The program is free and open to all persons 15 years old and up, and members have the ability to opt out at any time. Each time a subscriber responds to a text message from PollCast, he/she is compensated. The compensation amount appears at the beginning of the question and may be in the form of cash, points (hotel or car rental), or miles (airlines). Each campaign’s sponsor is typically a major retailer, consumer product company or marketing firm, but could also be local businesses, governments, affinity groups, etc.
Marriott International's Shafiq Khan, Senior Vice President of eCommerce noted, "I am very impressed with the Pollcast concept. It represents a breakthrough in time sensitive marketing which can be applied to many business situations and is a great example of how new technologies are creating exciting new tools for marketing decision making. Given the many potential opportunities to benefit from Pollcast, we are working with them(CLX) to develop a "pilot" that will test the concept appropriately."
“Air2Web is very pleased to be a partner of CLX and to be powering PollCast,” said Dale Gonzalez, CTO of Air2Web. “This is one of the most innovative uses of text messaging I have seen in the US market. Consumer Brand Companies and Marketing Firms have been struggling for some time with how to effectively reach their target markets, especially the youth sector. With Opt-In Text Polling, in which the participant gets compensated, a company can target the exact customer they are trying to reach and gain immediate and invaluable feedback from their target market. So not only do the sponsoring companies get to see how each participant responded to their brands, but they also get a summary of the respondents’ demographics and a confirmation that their text message was received. These are benefits which are harder to derive from TV, radio, print and billboard advertising.”
“We are delighted that market leaders like Marriott, BellSouth, and EDS have embraced and validated our vision for this innovative marketing medium. It is also pleasing that companies like Hydrade are using PollCast to introduce new product offerings to a targeted market.” said Dave Williams, CEO of CLX. We provide great value to both our clients and their consumers. Air2Web has contributed significantly to our early success and we could not have gained this traction without them.”
