Globe Telecom Launches Pioneering Mobile Commerce Application with Utiba Mobility

Singapore, October 20, 2004: Award-winning GSM operator in the Philippines, Globe Telecom, today launched G-CASH, a breakthrough in mobile commerce based on Utiba Mobility's U:Trust solution. G-CASH allows subscribers of Globe Handyphone and Touch Mobile the freedom to make payments and complete mobile transactions anytime and anywhere.

Mobile phones are fast emerging as the primary communications device for countries with insufficient wireline infrastructure, and the Philippines is widely recognized as a significant market, with one of the highest rates of texting and text-based services. With mobile penetration expected to cross 50 percent by 2005, Globe Telecom, with the help of Utiba Mobility's U:Trust solution, launched G-CASH, an innovative service designed to facilitate a variety of text-based cashless and card-less transactions.

"G-CASH is the result of the synergy between Utiba's fluency in mobile transaction software, and the telecommunication expertise of Globe Telecom. This service aims to provide subscribers with a mobile payments solution that embodies ease-of-use and optimum convenience," said Mr Justin Ho, Chief Operating Officer of Utiba Mobility.

G-CASH subscribers have the freedom to send and receive money transactions person-to-person (P2P). The service also allows subscribers and non-subscribers to send domestic and international remittances to Globe Handyphone and Touch Mobile subscribers in the Philippines. Recipients can in turn conduct transactions using this mobile wallet or exchange stored-value for cash in designated outlets.

CEO of Utiba Mobility, Richard Matotek said "The system completely embraces the concept of the phone becoming a wallet, since no linkage to other cards, bank accounts or credit cards are required, making it accessible to everyone and simplifying the user experience."

G-CASH subscribers can make purchases or payments in accredited establishments in the Philippines such as ABS CBN Interactive, Burger King, c-2-door.com, e-store exchange, Max's, Mercury Drug, Metro Gaisano, National Book Store, RemitCard, SuperFerry, and sureseats.com.

"The success of our reloading and load-sharing services inspired us to incorporate the convenience and ease of use of over-the-air mobile transactions into another category that addressed our subscribers' urgent concerns," said Mr. Gerardo C. Ablaza, President and Chief Executive Officer at Globe Telecom.

The G-CASH mobile wallet can store a minimum of one peso to a maximum of 10,000 pesos with maximum transactions of up to 40,000 pesos. Subscribers will be charged the usual text-messaging fee of one peso per message for G-CASH transactions although certain authorized outlets may be subject to processing fees that may vary per outlet.

The system designed by Utiba is flexible so that charges and transaction caps can be modified to suit changing business conditions. Globe Business Centers and Globelines Payment and Service Centers, for example, charge a service fee of 1% of the total transaction with a minimum fee of 10 pesos for cash-in or cash-out transactions.

G-CASH is PIN-protected with the PIN known only to the user and is changeable by the user at anytime. Transactions are supported by text advisories to both the sender and recipient with unique trace numbers.
