QUALCOMM Challenges BREW Game Developers to Show 'Who Got Game?'
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 7 -- QUALCOMM Incorporated
(Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access
(CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced the 2004 "Who Got Game?"
OpenGL ES Game Development Contest. "Who Got Game?" gives developers working
with QUALCOMM's BREW solution a chance to create 3D games, screensavers, user
interfaces (UIs) or other demo applications for QUALCOMM's Q3Dimension 3D
gaming engine. Seamlessly integrated into QUALCOMM's Multimedia, Enhanced
Multimedia and Convergence Platform Mobile Station Modem(TM) (MSM(TM))
chipsets, Q3Dimension will soon be incorporated into many phone models,
rapidly creating a large installed base of wireless 3D gaming handsets and a
new, large business opportunity for BREW 3D game developers.
"QUALCOMM launched the 'Who Got Game?' OpenGL ES contest to create further
awareness of our commitment to driving wireless 3D gaming and to draw
attention to the opportunities that our technologies will create for
developers," said Mike Yuen, director of BREW Developer Relations for QUALCOMM
Internet Services. "Our BREW system coupled with the Q3Dimension solution
assists both novice and experienced developers with the creation of new and
innovative games, demos, 3D based UIs and other applications, further
extending the possibilities of wireless entertainment."
Contest entrants will use QUALCOMM's BREW SDK(R) software development
environment, which includes support for OpenGL ES APIs and QUALCOMM's
Q3Dimension 3D solution, to develop content for QUALCOMM's MSM6150(TM) and
MSM6550(TM) chipset solutions. Integrated into QUALCOMM MSM chipsets, the
Q3Dimension 3D gaming platform offers sophisticated audio and complex
rendering functions -- geometry processing, rasterization, texture mapping and
fragment operations -- to enable unparalleled 3D animation for 3G wireless
systems.
"Who Got Game?" submissions will be accepted through November 30, 2004,
and winners are expected to be announced in early 2005. Complete contest
rules can be found online at GameDev.net, a leading online community for game
developers: http://www.gamedev.net/community/contest/qualcomm2004/.
