The only leg of the World Championship Surfing Tour to be held on mainland USA, the Boost Mobile Pro of Surf is happening now through Sept. 20 (no competition on Sunday, Sept. 19). Forty-five of the world's top professional surfers, including Andy Irons, Kelly Slater and C.J. Hobgood, are competing in high-performance waves for $260,000 in prize money. The Boost Mobile Pro will be featured in a television special on Outdoor Life Network (OLN) as a part of the network's coverage of the ASP World Tour, and distributed globally.

1950s surf-inspired style meets new millennium technology at the Boost Mobile Pro this week. Introducing retro design to the U.S. wireless phone market, Boost Mobile is unveiling the limited edition Boost-branded "Woody" phone. Reminiscent of mid-century surf culture, the "Woody" combines nostalgic wood-grain design details and the vintage yellow and brown color scheme from the 2004 Boost Mobile Pro of Surf with the latest mobile phone technology, including nationwide Boost(SM) Walkie-Talkie service, high resolution internal and external color display, and picture caller ID. The handset also enables users to customize the phone with beach-themed display wallpapers, ringtones and games from Boost LIVE - a one stop shop for mobile downloads. Available exclusively from Boost Mobile, the "Woody" phone will be a limited edition specialty phone. As a special product from Boost Mobile, only a limited number of "Woody" phones will be manufactured and distributed exclusively through youth fashion retailers and BoostMobile.com.

The official Boost Mobile Pro of Surf wireless game enables Boost customers to surf the world-renowned surf break Trestles in man-on-man heats and score points as players hit the lip, get barreled, and perform aerial maneuvers. With an all-star Boost Mobile line up of world-class pro surfers to choose from, including Andy Irons, Kelly Slater, Bruce Irons, and Sunny Garcia, and a different wave breaking in each of the three rounds, "wannabe" pro surfers might escape spaghetti arms, but their thumbs will be toast. The game will be available from Boost LIVE (www.boostlive.com) to download starting this October, and will be pre-loaded on the Boost limited edition i860 "Woody" phone available this December. Boost is in discussions to license the game internationally.

Additionally, Boost Mobile and Roxy, the world leader in casual lifestyle apparel and accessories for young women, co-hosted a Roxy Motorola i830 phone launch party in conjunction with ASR on Sept. 10 at club "Thin" in San Diego.
"Boost Mobile is known for its wireless phones and popular youth events, particularly the Boost Mobile Pro action sports competitions," said Mark Fewell, senior director of business development, Boost Mobile. "One of our goals for this year's Boost Mobile Pro of Surf was to create and implement an integrated marketing campaign that demonstrated a real connection between our events and product development. Utilizing our own event assets and reputation, along with the best surf team in the world, creating innovative mobile entertainment like the wireless surf game was a nature progression. This is just the first of what we expect will be many more exciting and unique integrated programs.
Boost and Surfing
Boost Mobile has supported the surf industry since its brand inception in 2000. From the start, Boost has sponsored surfers like Taj Burrow, Luke Egan and Layne Beachley, as well as events such as the Quiksilver Air Show, the first entirely aerial surfing contest held in Australia. By sponsoring junior development programs like the Billabong Junior Series and promotional tours like the Billabong Boost Freeway Tour, Boost made a point of involving itself in all facets of the culture early on. When Boost expanded outside Australia and into New Zealand in 2001, local boys like Maz and Jay Quinn and the NZ surf series were among the first to join the Boost roster.
The 2002 Boost Mobile Pro at Trestles, Calif., kicked off Boost's U.S. launch. Partnering with Billabong, Boost Mobile brought the world's top professional surfers back to mainland USA. The event saw incredible surf due to hurricane swells, and was won by Boost team rider Luke Egan. In 2003 Boost Mobile teamed up with Quiksilver to again deliver an incredible Boost Mobile Pro, this time taken by Richie Lovett of Australia. Boost Mobile's commitment extends to individual surfers, and the company has been touted by Transworld Surf Business as having the best surf team in the world: a team that includes current World Champions Andy Irons and Layne Beachley, former World Champions Kelly Slater, Sunny Garcia, Occy, and big wave legend Mike Parsons, as well as hot up-and-comers Bruce Irons, Dane Reynolds and Jamie O'Brien.
