ETRI collaborates with Esmertec in R&D for next generation personal communication devices
Daejeon, Korea and Duebendorf-Zurich, Switzerland – September 30, 2004
– Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) (www.etri.re.kr)
has signed an agreement with Esmertec™ (www.esmertec.com) to jointly research
and develop technologies for digital home solutions and next generation personal
communications devices.
Esmertec is a recognized leading provider of software solutions for mobile phones
and embedded devices. Its high-performance Java™ solutions are chosen and used
by leading device manufacturers in telecommunications, cable TV and home
multimedia. ETRI is a renowned technological institute and has successfully
developed information technologies such as TDX-Exchange, High Density
Semiconductor Microchips, Mini-Super Computer (TiCOM), Digital Mobile
Telecommunication System (CDMA) and Digital Home solutions.
Under the agreement, both parties will share their technology know-how and
expertise, and execute joint projects to develop advanced market-relevant products
for the growing demand of innovative personal communication devices.
In the first joint project, ETRI will be implementing Esmertec’s leading runtime
platform, Jbed™, on their home-networking reference solution. This reference
solution will be provided to home networking device manufacturers.
