China Unicom Selects Alcatel to Deploy First Provincial WAP Project
i-Newswire, 2005-04-13 - Under the terms of the agreement, Alcatel will provide its WAP 2.0 Gateway solution, which will enable Tianjin Unicom to deliver high speed WAP 2.0 services to its customers. Tianjin Unicom WAP subscribers will be able to take advantage of new value-added services - such as mobile web browsing, real-time traffic supervision, mobile television service, videoconference, and other multi-media applications - using CDMA 1X supported web handsets.
Prior to the Tianjin Unicom WAP 2.0 project, Alcatel deployed WAP 2.0 solutions for China Unicom in Beijing, Jiangsu, Shandong and Zhejiang. All of these implementations were connected to China Unicom's nation-wide mobile data backbone network. Furthermore, the WAP 2.0 solution that Alcatel deployed for China Unicom in Beijing was Alcatel's first WAP 2.0 deployment worldwide. These deployments of WAP 2.0 build on Alcatel's previous success introducing WAP 1.2 in China Unicom's network in provinces such as Inner Mongolia.
