Wavesat Takes the Lead With a Direct Path to Wimax Mobility

MONTREAL-- April 18, 2005--Wavesat, a leading developer of WiMAX silicon, today announced its commitment to provide a direct path from fixed to mobility with its Evolutive(TM) WiMAX strategy. Wavesat's strategy will be achieved through robust OFDM sub channelization, full featured low-cost solutions, a fully integrated subscriber chip in multiple packaging and a low power consumption design.

Wavesat's Evolutive(TM) product family offers a flexible architecture, allowing both vendor innovation and interoperability in compliance with WiMAX Forum criteria. This means backward compatibility with fixed legacy products, upgradeability with future products and the capacity to adapt to country specific requirements. Wavesat's Evolutive(TM) concept translates into fastest time to market for customers and a clear roadmap ahead.

"The current limitations are manifest in both the fixed and the mobile infrastructures," said Frank Draper VP Sales and Marketing. "The fixed wired broadband technologies have exhausted easiest business case, 2.5 and 3G are lagging enabling efficient and productive broadband applications and WiFi has fundamental limitations in term of coverage and robustness when deployed in an outdoor and harsh environment. Our Evolutive concept complements very efficiently current wireless solutions".

Pierre Lamoureux, Wavesat's CTO adds "Wavesat's WiMAX technology has the ability to fill these deficiencies and our roadmap is to deliver cost effective and Evolutive(TM) solutions to protect our customers' investment. It is the only 100% backward compatible passageway from fixed to nomadic to urban mobility."

Wavesat's strategy is to build on the IEEE 802.16 committee's progress and to simplify the diversity of options that the WiMAX manufacturing community can efficiently support. Wavesat will address the full mobility once it has reached a level of maturity. It will assess and implement the correct technology necessary to meet market and operator requirements. This will be Wavesat's challenge, during the next few years.

"Cost effective and standard based solutions have been the driving force behind the WiFi success," said Michel Guay, President and CEO. "To ensure similar success with WIMAX, Wavesat and a growing number of players in the BWA industry are convinced that we must offer products enabling our customers to start deploying WiMAX certified systems now while offering an efficient path to full mobility."
