Cloakware Increases Speed to Market for Digital Rights Management Application Developers

MICROSOFT WINHEC, SEATTLE, WA, April 25 - Cloakware Inc., an innovative developer of solutions for protecting software and systems from unauthorized access and piracy, today announced the general availability of four Digital Rights Management (DRM) Robustness Solutions:

- Windows Media DRM 10 (WMDRM-PD) for portable devices
- Windows Media DRM 10 (WMDRM-ND) for networked devices
- FCC Broadcast Flag
- Certified Output Protection Protocol (COPP)

Copyrighted content providers currently require that device manufacturers conform to a set of robustness rules for protecting content and eliminating piracy. Should manufacturers fail to meet these compliance and robustness guidelines, they are subject to penalties, including the possible revocation of their licenses to play or support content. Cloakware Robustness Solutions enable device manufacturers and application vendors to quickly and easily meet the Robustness Rules for protecting licensed digital content.

"ATI is actively developing products that will provide the Digital Rights Management to ensure security for content providers," said Paul Lypaczewski, Vice President and General Manager, Multimedia, ATI Technologies Inc. "Cloakware Robustness Solutions are an important component of ATI's secure media pipeline which will help us comply with the Robustness Rules that the industry requires to enable our customers to enjoy access to premium content."

Cloakware Robustness Solutions simplify DRM development, speed time-to- market and reduce development costs. This enables vendors to easily protect DRM as required by Robustness Rules defined by leading standards and protocols. These include Microsoft Windows Media DRM 10, COPP, OMA-DRM, DTCP/IP and FCC Broadcast Flag for Digital TV.

To support its customers in the DRM market, Cloakware also provides a security testing service, based on the company's broad DRM experience and intimate understanding of Robustness Rules associated with DRM standards. The service is designed to deliver rapid turnaround and broad coverage on the testing of the device and software implementation.

"Because copyrighted material is the lifeblood of content owners and also drives device and application sales for our customers, we need to ensure that every possible step is taken to protect these assets from theft, piracy and fraud," said Jeff Waxman, CEO of Cloakware. "Cloakware Robustness Solutions provide Hollywood studios and other content providers with increased confidence that copyrighted material is safe from hackers and thieves."

About Cloakware Robustness Solutions
Cloakware Robustness Solutions are a quick and easy way to conform to the rules required by specific content handling licenses. Each solution delivers easy-to-use components, including pre-secured code, development tools and integration services that build in the robustness, saving the time and expense of developing compliant applications in-house.

Microsoft's Windows Media DRM (WMDRM) platform enables the secure delivery of protected content for playback on a portable device or network device. Cloakware Robustness Solution for WMDRM-PD allows device manufacturers and application vendors to more quickly and easily meet the Robustness Rules for Windows Media DRM 10 for Portable Devices, and Cloakware Robustness Solution for WMDRM-ND is for Windows Media DRM 10 for Networked Devices. Cloakware Robustness Solutions are currently supported on Linux platforms for ARM, MIPS and x86 chipsets, as well as for WinCE on ARM and x86 chipsets. Platform support will be expanded to include Symbian OS support on ARM by mid this year.

FCC Broadcast Flag is a US federal regulation designed to minimize the unauthorized redistribution of digital television (DTV) broadcasts, which requires that copy control bits embedded in the DTV broadcast stream (the Broadcast Flag) must be adhered to by any demodulator or capture device. Cloakware Robustness Solution for Broadcast Flag provides capture device manufacturers with the security techniques needed to meet the Broadcast Flag Robustness Rules, ensuring that the software managing the broadcast stream is protected from attack.

Certified Output Protection Protocol (COPP) is a Microsoft protocol that authenticates graphics drivers and ensures that copy protection is reliably signaled to the graphics adapter. Cloakware Robustness Solution for COPP allows graphics adapter manufacturers to ensure that their software components are protected from tampering, and is available on MSVC 6 and 7.1 for Windows XP on x86.
