Brightpoint Inks Mobile Content Deal with InProdicon to Launch Music Portal
PLAINFIELD, Ind.--Aug. 1, 2005-- Brightpoint, Inc. (NASDAQ:CELL) today announced that its subsidiary, Brightpoint Sweden AB ("Brightpoint") has entered into a mobile content agreement with InProdicon AB, a leading distributor of digital content in the Nordic region, to launch a new website (www.mediamilkshake.com) that will employ InProdicon's technology to offer cutting edge music bundles for all customers via an intuitive user interface. The website offers the ability to sample and/or download ringtones (polyphonic and mastertones) and complete songs for use on Windows Mobile devices and other devices.
InProdicon has licensing agreements with most of the major music labels including Sony-BMG, Warner, and EMI, among others. Payment options include Web payment via credit card, or mobile payment via premium SMS or WAP.
Brightpoint will bundle these music services with Microsoft mobile devices to its European dealers and retailers. Microsoft series of devices includes smartphones and devices that utilize the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system.
"With the continued growth in the converged smart mobile device market and the expansion of global 3G networks, consumer demand for rich multimedia content will continue to grow," said Robert J. Laikin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Brightpoint. "That is why our deal with InProdicon is so significant - it enables Brightpoint to quickly enter the mobile content space with a proven market leader, while simultaneously enhancing our existing relationship with Microsoft."
"Brightpoint's agreement with InProdicon is well-timed to meet rapidly growing consumer interest in mobile applications such as music and games," said Rachel Lashford, analyst with UK-based research firm Canalys. "Brightpoint's relationships put it in a good position to help the channel deliver mobile content and services."
"InProdicon's agreement with Brightpoint brings quality local and international content directly to consumers, allowing them to enjoy entertainment media at home and on the go. Through integration with InProdicon's unique platform of services, Brightpoint is now able to offer consumers access to music, videos, ringtones, audio books and more which they may enjoy both on PC and directly in their Qtek and other Windows Mobile devices. Brightpoint's distribution of Microsoft Mobile devices, and InProdicon's extensive support for Windows Media formats is a perfect match," said David Hudert, Senior Vice President and CTO of InProdicon AB.
