Nextel to Offer Trimble's Mobile Resource Management Solution for Field Service and Enterprise Fleet

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 3 -- Trimble (Nasdaq: TRMB) announced today that its subsidiary, Trimble Mobile Solutions, Inc. (TMS), has signed a distribution agreement with Nextel Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: NXTL) to offer the TMS TrimWeb(TM) mobile resource management (MRM) solution through the Nextel(R) sales channel, which will run over Nextel's nationwide digital network. The TrimWeb in-vehicle solution utilizes Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and cellular communications to efficiently route fleets and decrease driver down time.

Trimble's TrimWeb MRM solution is a valuable asset for companies that maintain a mobile fleet, regardless of the type of vehicles used. It enables drivers, dispatchers and management to increase the number of daily deliveries or stops. TrimWeb automatically logs arrival and departure times and also monitors the location of vehicles. The solution integrates real-time vehicle and driver information with location and time data to provide fleet owners with reliable control to optimize fleet performance to service their customers more efficiently.

"We are pleased to be working with Nextel. Their strong commitment to customers in the field service industry coupled with a reliable all-digital wireless network will make for an outstanding distribution partnership," said Rick Beyer, president of Trimble Mobile Solutions.

TrimWeb is typically lower priced than other similar solutions and supports 15-, 10- and one-minute position reporting, compared to comparable products that offer only 15-minute capability. TrimWeb also has extended storage capability, where most companies only support a 30-day storage.

Customers can select from three plans designed to enable asset management for a variety of field service and enterprise fleet operations, such as heating and air conditioning, plumbing, utilities, towing, food service and many others.

The monthly service packages include Nextel's Data Access Plan and require no minimum contract commitment. Pricing does not include the required Trimble in-vehicle mounted hardware.

  • Basic service provides daily or weekly reports detailing vehicle activity -- $29.94 a month per vehicle

  • Standard service includes near real-time status that provides 15-minute position reporting in addition to the Basic plan functionality -- $34.94 a month per vehicle

  • Professional service provides one minute position reporting delivered every 10 minutes in addition to the Standard plan -- $39.94 a month per vehicle
