Buffalo and Nintendo Expand Partnership to Simplify Wireless Gaming for Nintendo DS Users

AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 5, 2005 -- Nintendo and Buffalo, Inc. a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of complete computer peripheral solutions such as wired and wireless networking, storage and memory products are expanding their partnership in the United States and Canada. The companies are again teaming together to further the integration of Buffalo's AirStation One-Touch Secure System (AOSS) technology into Nintendo(r) Wi-Fi Connection games for the Nintendo DS.

The relationship allows Nintendo DS users to seamlessly create a secure wireless connection to an AOSS-compatible device to play multiplayer games over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service. Those games include Mario Kart(r) DS, Tony Hawk's American SK8Land and the upcoming Animal Crossing: Wild World and Metroid(r) Prime Hunters.

"Nintendo has always been known as an innovator. By implementing Buffalo's AOSS technology into its Nintendo DS games, Nintendo is continuing on its mission to innovate while joining Buffalo in its effort to simplify the digital home," stated Morikazu Sano, senior vice president of global marketing at Buffalo Technology. "It is an honor to continue to work with Nintendo and offer Nintendo DS users the ultimate wireless gaming experience."

AOSS allows users to automatically set-up a secure wireless network with the push of a button. By incorporating AOSS in Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection games, Nintendo DS users simply have to press the AOSS button on the game's network configuration menu to establish a secure connection between the Nintendo DS and a Buffalo AirStation wireless access point.

Buffalo has also jointly developed with Nintendo a new Nintendo-ready wireless software AP - the "Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector," which is sold by Nintendo worldwide. The product is designed to allow the Nintendo DS to establish a wireless connection to a PC, and share that PC's Internet connection. The device includes software for the PC, which notifies users when a Nintendo DS user is requesting to share the PC's Internet connection. Users can accept these requests with a single click. Once the initial connection has been established, subsequent connection is automatic. Up to five Nintendo DS units can share a PC's Internet connection. The device and software are compatible with PCs running Windows XP.
