Rocket Mobile Embedded Technology Speeds Time to Market for Two New Motorola Handsets
LOS GATOS, Calif., Dec. 12 -- Rocket Mobile(R), a leading
provider of mobile phone software, today announced the availability of two
new mobile handsets enabled by Rocket Mobile's embedded BREW(R) solution.
Rocket Mobile's core handset technologies significantly cut the time to
market for advanced mobile devices from leading handset manufacturers.
Motorola's much anticipated RAZR V3c and the Motorola V325 will be the first
set of U.S. handsets to feature Rocket Mobile's embedded technology.
The company's embedded technology makes advanced handsets a reality by
expediting the development process of new handsets, thereby greatly reducing
time to market. Rather than embed software directly to the firmware, as has
been typical in the past, Rocket Mobile takes advantage of the BREW solution
on top of the chipset, embedding advanced software at the native core of the
chip. Rocket Mobile's use of the BREW solution allows handset OEMs to shave
months off their development process, giving them the competitive advantage
of faster market entry.
Powered by CDMA2000(R) chipsets from QUALCOMM's Multimedia Platform, both
the Motorola RAZR V3c and Motorola V325 will come equipped with pre-installed
and embedded BREW applications to enhance the wireless subscribers' user
experience. Pre-embedded software includes the core applications of the
device including SMS, EMS and MMS technology, as well as Rocket Mobile's Core
Device Suite that includes a built-in calendar, world clock, alarm clock,
notepad and calculator functionalities.
"Rocket Mobile believes our embedded technology solutions along with the
BREW solution provide handset manufacturers with a distinct advantage in the
creation of innovative handsets such as the Motorola RAZR V3c and Motorola
V325 by enabling a quicker time to market," said Wayne Yurtin, president and
CEO, Rocket Mobile. "Not only do users benefit from the advanced
capabilities of the pre-embedded software, but the phones are better aligned
with the requirements set forth by the operators."
"Motorola is pleased to be working with Rocket Mobile to bring their
embedded messaging offerings to these two new handsets," said John Cipolla,
vice president of CDMA Product Development, Motorola. "In this highly
competitive mobile environment, Rocket Mobile's technology truly provides us
with a real opportunity to gain a competitive edge."
"The future of advanced wireless devices is propelled by technologies
from innovative companies like Rocket Mobile," said Gina Lombardi, senior
vice president of marketing and product management, QUALCOMM Internet
Services. "The BREW solution's flexibility is highly conducive to reducing
time to market for handset manufacturers and software technology companies
like Rocket Mobile. This is just another example of how the solution
supports the wireless data industry at all levels."
Motorola's RAZR V3c and Motorola V325 handsets feature chipsets from
QUALCOMM's Multimedia Platform, solutions designed to drive the rapid
development and adoption of high-speed wireless data applications. The
platform's chipsets support all major air interfaces and are integrated with
video, audio, gaming and location-based capabilities to enable wireless
handsets that deliver multimedia functionality while being more space-, cost-
, and power-efficient.
QUALCOMM's BREW solution is designed to meet the distinct and varied
needs of wireless operators, handset manufacturers, publishers, developers
and end users around the world. BREW products and services include an open,
extensible client platform that supports robust systems and application
software, including personalized and branded user interfaces for mass market
devices; a J2EE(TM)-based, modular delivery system that enables the
distribution of content, applications and user interfaces to wireless devices
across all air interfaces; a dedicated professional services team that
supports the integration of customized implementations; and the wireless
industry's first global marketplace to support the monetization of
applications and services developed in all programming languages. The BREW
solution can make the wireless visions of innovative companies a reality.
