Utimaco's SafeGuard PDA Adds Advanced Security For Palm OS Users

London UK, December 16th, 2005 Utimaco Safeware, the world leading supplier of data security solutions, has just launched an authentication and encryption tool for mobile devices that runs the Palm OS operating system. The new version of SafeGuard PDA for Palm OS offers users of Palm-based smartphones and PDAs greater protection against unauthorised device access or data misuse through a range of different authentication and encryption technologies. Designed for Palm OS 3.5 and above, the solution secures popular mobile devices such as the TreoT smartphone by blocking rogue attempts to access stored data.

With its latest addition to the SafeGuard PDA portfolio, Utimaco now supports and secures all important mobile operating systems: Windows Mobile, Symbian, BlackBerry and Palm OS. Organisations that run a heterogeneous mobile infrastructure will be able to protect all client devices through security solutions from Utimaco.

SafeGuard PDA for Palm OS features effective and convenient user authentication via password or PIN. It also includes a secure screen saver, and support for quick access to telephone calls without the need for an additional logon. Forgotten passwords can be reset centrally by using SafeGuard's tried-and-tested emergency recovery system, ensuring that employees can get back to work quickly.

The software provides highly efficient encryption not only for files on memory cards, but also for internal databases used in Personal Information Management (PIM) such as e-mails, SMS, tasks and events. Access to confidential data is totally restricted unless the user has the correct authorisation.

SafeGuard PDA also makes administrative tasks easier, reducing enterprise support costs. IT managers can set up password guidelines, encryption and security rules for company PDAs centrally, and then enforce them throughout the organisation.

The Palm OS continues to form a substantial share of worldwide PDA shipments. In the second quarter of 2005, there were 678,570 worldwide shipments of Palm-based PDAs, 19 per cent of the total market, according to the leading IT analyst Gartner. SafeGuard PDA for Palm OS has been optimised to cover the Palm OS platforms most commonly used in business environments including the TreoT 650 smartphone.

Besides the full portfolio of PDA protection, Utimaco also develops SafeGuard PushMail to protect BlackBerry users. This new PushMail security solution protects BlackBerry users from unauthorised access of their data by consistently encrypting all e-mail traffic.
