Vocel and Random House, Inc. Partner to Bring Wireless Language Learning to Mobile Phones
New York, NY - Vocel, one of the most exciting "push technology" companies in the wireless field, and Living Language, a Random House, Inc. imprint that is the foremost name in foreign language self-study, have partnered to put interactive language learning in consumers' pockets via mobile phones. Offered by major mobile phone carriers, and powered by Vocel's innovative interactive push technology, Living Language mobile phone lessons are now being delivered to consumers on their own time, anywhere they are with full audio pronunciation of hundreds of words.
This new evolution in cell phone capability is made possible by Vocel's patent-pending, interactive messaging technology. The company is working on the development of high-end applications that will forever change the way people receive information from and interact with their cell phones. In addition to work with Living Language, Vocel is already developing premium applications for a core group of recognized editorial brand names, including The Princeton Review, Oxford University Press, Harlequin Enterprises, The Pill Book to name a few.
"Vocel is committed to developing high-end interactive applications that help the cell phone evolve from just simply being a communications tool to a full-featured learning and entertainment companion that goes anywhere you do and improves the quality of your life," said Carl Washburn, Vocel's CEO and founder. "Our partnership with Living Language, one of the premiere names in language study, is an exciting example of the kind of interactive, life-enhancement applications we are developing via our patent-pending technology."
"We are very excited about the partnership with Vocel and the opportunity their technology is affording us to expand the base for our brand," said Tom Russell, Publisher of the Living Language imprint of Random House. "Consumers expect to be able to use their cell phones or other wireless devices for more interesting and life-improving things such as educational lessons that go where they go. The cell phone is a natural tool for not only delivering the lessons, but also the audio presentation that's involved in language study."
The full-color Living Language lessons allow users to determine what they learn, when they learn, and how they learn it. The initial Living Language mobile phone applications, include Spanish, and English as a second language. Both applications feature more than 600 words, phrases, grammar lessons and short readings that are sent to the user's phone over the course of the subscription. The features include audio pronunciation of all words, which is crucial to learning a language, and just part of what makes this mobile phone application such a useful and unique learning tool.
Consumers subscribe to the Living Language service through their mobile phone carrier and they can customize the application to learn at their own pace. Users can choose how many questions they receive per day, what the topics are, and when the learning begins and ends each day. Practiced questions can be pushed to users throughout the day, and reminders can even help distracted learners stay focused. The in-depth applications offered include interactive tutorials, flashcard learning, tests and report cards.
