mBlox and Kizoom Help Travellers Over Busy Festive Period
London, UK – 21 December, 2005 – A text based travel information service from Kizoom, which uses mBlox’s mobile transaction network, will be a welcome solution for commuters over Christmas and New Year. With an increase in impromptu travellers who will need to negotiate scheduled timetable changes over the holiday period, Kizoom’s service will help all commuters cut down the time they spend waiting at bus stops, train and tube stations by providing up to the minute transport information.
On average, waiting for a bus or train and other time spent queuing for tickets within stations, walking to or from platforms and changing between journey stages, accounts for a third of the total journey time for rail journeys and a fifth of the total journey time for bus journeys. With Kizoom’s text based service travellers have the means to get travel information at anytime and anywhere all through the power of text.
Passengers employ Kizoom’s service by sending an SMS to a short code. Kizoom then responds with up to the minute transport information via SMS. The SMS messages can include information on scheduled bus, train and tube services and can also be tailored to a particular commute, enabling travellers to make informed decisions about their journey.
Kizoom delivers travel information services on behalf of numerous transport authorities including Transport for London. Jon White at Transport for London, said, “The mobile phone has the potential to inform our customers with the latest travel information, helping them navigate one of the largest and most complex transport networks in the world. With the festive period bringing more travellers to London who maybe unfamiliar with the area, mobile communication can help them with all their transport information needs.”
Andrew Bud, executive chairman at mBlox, the company managing the delivery and billing of the service, said, “Text messages are the ideal way of providing immediate information to people so they can effectively plan their journey. Kizoom are world leaders in delivering this kind of service and we’re proud that our network can deliver the kind of reliable messaging performance necessary to keep millions of passengers informed during their journeys this holiday season.”
Malcolm Vernon, Business Development Director at Kizoom, said, “All the commuter needs to do is text one of the simple short codes and they can receive a journey plan, information on how services are running, or even a tube map within a few seconds. With the Kizoom service, even if the transport service is delayed, they can spend more time Christmas or sale shopping or with family and friends. Best of all, most of the services are free to the commuter.”
