WirelessDevNet.com Press Release
IXI Announces Availability of Dedicated Mobile Messaging Device in Europe
Stand K17, Hall 4, 3GSM WORLD CONGRESS, CANNES, France, 14 February 2005
– IXI Mobile, Inc., developer of mass market messaging devices and
feature phone operating system software, today announced the
availability of CT-12, an innovative clamshell, QWERTY keyboard, mobile
messaging device designed expressly for on-the-go Instant Messaging
(IM), email and SMS.
Available for the first time in Europe, the CT-12 is a mass-market
mobile messaging product based upon the successful Ogo™ device, launched
in the US in September 2004 by AT&T Wireless (now Cingular Wireless), in
conjunction with IXI Mobile. Ogo, the first in IXI’s CT Series of mobile
messaging devices, is the only device of its kind to provide
simultaneous, unlimited IM and email from the three leading portals –
AOL, MSN, and Yahoo! – plus text messaging.
CT-12 is a messaging-optimized solution that increases data usage and
extends the desktop experience to the mobile world. Mobile operators,
leveraging the growing popularity of desktop and mobile messaging, can
deploy the device quickly and easily, increasing data revenue and
customer satisfaction.
The CT-12 is built on IXI-Connect OS, IXI’s complete operating system
solution optimized for feature phones and data-centric mobile devices.
IXI-Connect OS also features PMG® (Personal Mobile Gateway) technology,
which allows a mobile phone or data-centric device to wirelessly
Internet-enable a variety of application-specific PMG companion devices
such as watches, cameras and MP3 players.
Leveraging IXI-Connect OS and IXI’s customization services, the device
can be tailored to carriers’ requirements. The CT-12’s software, such as
the user interface, as well as the hardware, can be customized to meet
operators’ branding and customer experience needs. For IM and email,
the CT-12 can fully interoperate with leading portals, as well as other
communities.
Amit Haller, CEO of IXI Mobile, said “I am pleased to be able to
announce the availability of the CT-12 mobile messaging device in
Europe. Operators are continually looking for means of delivering
value-added data services to their customers. The CT-12 addresses the
need for innovative, data-revenue-enhancing devices by leveraging the
increasingly popular IM application and the tried and tested messaging
media of email and SMS.”

About PMG®
Personal Mobile Gateway technology (PMG®) combines cellular (e.g.
GSM/GPRS, CDMA, etc.) and short distance wireless (e.g. Bluetooth or
other technologies like WiFi), with micro-router and micro-server
functionalities. It is the point of connection between the wireless
network and a new category of affordable and best-of-breed mobile
devices for consumers (PMG Companions).
The PMG enables a new set of innovative, optimized PMG Companion devices
(e.g. messaging terminals, watches, cameras and MP3 players) that
deliver a superior user experience, while still focused on fashion and
budget. These devices cost less to manufacture, can be brought to market
much faster than ordinary mobile phones or smartphones, and generate
greater data usage. The PMG also seamlessly connects existing legacy
terminals (e.g. PDAs, laptops) with no additional client software
needed.
