WirelessDevNet.com Press Release
QUALCOMM Announces BREW(R) uiOne User Interface Offering
CANNES, France, Feb. 14 -- QUALCOMM Incorporated
(Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access
(CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced its BREW uiOne offering,
an open and flexible combination of products and services to enable customized
user interfaces (UIs) for mobile phones. QUALCOMM will demonstrate its BREW
uiOne capabilities on a BenQ S80 WCDMA (UMTS)/GSM/GPRS dual-mode handset,
powered by QUALCOMM's MSM6250(TM) chipset solution, at 3GSM World Congress
2005 in the QUALCOMM booth located in Hall 1, Booth A2.
The BREW uiOne offering is designed to increase market differentiation and
revenue potential for wireless operators, decrease time-to-market for handset
delivery, and allow publishers and developers to expand into new areas of
application development. Feature-rich user interfaces developed with BREW
uiOne can be delivered over the air, enabling consumers to customize the
individual look and feel of their phone and organize features in their own
unique way.
"The BREW uiOne offering can be tailored to meet the needs of wireless
operators around the world," said Peggy Johnson, president of QUALCOMM
Internet Services. "BREW uiOne uses advanced technology and services to
enable flexible and customized user interface capabilities and to
differentiate wireless services. With BREW uiOne operators can offer their
subscribers a deep, rich user experience, enhancing their services in a
variety of ways."
"People love to personalize their mobile phones. Look at how they've
taken to buying ringtones. In the same way, the ability to customize their
user interface holds great promise," said Neil Strother, senior analyst with
In-Stat. "Smart wireless operators see custom UIs as a way to drive new
service revenue. Demand for custom UIs should spur phone manufacturers to
deliver more sophisticated handsets."
The BREW uiOne offering is comprised of a suite of products and services,
including:
BREW uiOne Toolkit -- enables rapid development of rich and
dynamic UIs.
BREW uiOne SDK (software development kit) -- includes a focused
PC-based set of UI authoring tools to create a customized UI.
BREW uiOne Applications, Resources and Templates (ART) -- provides a
library of UI application resources and design templates for use by
device manufacturers and operators.
BREW uiOne Distribution System -- allows wireless users to purchase
and download custom UIs.
Professional Services -- to assist operators in getting to market.
QUALCOMM's BREW solution is designed to meet the distinct and varied needs
of wireless operators, handset manufacturers, publishers, developers and end
users around the world. BREW products and services include: an open,
extensible client platform that supports robust system and application
software including personalized and branded user interfaces for mass market
devices; a J2EE(TM)-based, modular distribution system that enables the
delivery of content, applications and user interfaces to wireless devices
across all air interfaces; a dedicated professional services team that
supports the integration of customized implementations; and the wireless
industry's first global marketplace to support the monetization of
applications and services developed in all programming languages. The BREW
ecosystem can make your wireless vision a reality.
