WirelessDevNet.com Press Release
Orb Networks and Creative Join Forces to Expand Personal Digital Entertainment Capabilities
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 4 -- Orb Networks, Inc., a leading developer
of streaming media software and services, today announced an agreement with
Creative (Nasdaq: CREAF), a worldwide leader in digital entertainment products
for PC users. The agreement establishes a working relationship between the
two companies to enable consumers to use Creative products such as a Creative
WebCam to capture video and audio and deliver it to a cell phone, PDA or
notebook, anywhere in the world.
The demand for media mobility amongst the connected population continues
to grow at an exponential rate. Orb's breakthrough service provides a simple
way for consumers to view, hear and control all kinds of their digital content
from virtually any Internet-enabled device. Users can access their Webcams
from a PDA or notebook at work or listen to their entire home digital music
collection while on the road with rich high-fidelity audio quality from a
Creative Sound Blaster sound card, such as the new PCMCIA Sound Blaster Audigy
2 ZS Notebook.
"Creative is constantly looking for the most innovative technologies to
enhance the PC experience for our customers," said Steve Erickson, vice
president, audio products, Creative Technology Ltd. "Orb's solution is a
great extension to our tools and products. Whether at work, on vacation or
at the airport, our customers can access their media located at home with this
simple to use application."
"We're extremely excited to work with Creative," said James Behrens, CEO,
Orb Networks. "Creative is driving digital entertainment on the PC, and Orb
shares that vision. Now, with the combination of our solutions, we can
provide an even better product to the consumers. It's wonderful for all
consumers to be able to expand the capabilities of their digital tools and
toys. What you can use at home, you can now spontaneously access on the road
including the ability to see into your home on virtually any mobile device
using your webcam."
In a separate press release issued today, Orb Networks introduced Orb
Media 1.0 at the 2005 International CES tradeshow in Las Vegas, Nevada. Orb's
first product introduction marks a breakthrough in streaming digital media
services. Using any Web browser, Orb provides a simple, intuitive interface
to the user's content located on their home PC or on the Internet allowing
users to create their own "personal media portal." Users can now see their
home videos, listen to their favorite songs, or watch live TV on virtually any
of their Internet-connected devices. By removing the complexity and
limitations of many of today's digital entertainment products and services,
Orb's software architecture leverages the best features of today's popular
standards while abiding by current digital rights management solutions.
