WirelessDevNet.com Press Release
Summus Delivers its Popular Poker Game to Java-Enabled Mobile Phones
Triangle - Raleigh - Summus, Inc. , a leading provider of mobile media applications that optimize the consumer wireless experience today announced that the popular Texas Hold'em by Phil Hellmuth poker game is now currently available for wireless carriers with the J2ME(TM) technology.
Texas Hold'em by Phil Hellmuth, a wireless version of the popular poker game, is endorsed by nine-time World Series of Poker champion, Phil Hellmuth. The new J2ME version of the game has recently launched on one major U.S. wireless carrier, with more carriers that support J2ME committed to launching in the coming weeks. Since carriers that support J2ME, such as Sprint, Nextel, T-Mobile and Cingular represent over 60% of all domestic mobile subscribers, the newest version can address an even larger segment of the mobile gaming population.
Texas Hold'em by Phil Hellmuth is available in either a solo play or multiplayer version. The multiplayer version enables subscribers all over the country to play directly against each other with true cross-carrier compatibility. As a result, mobile subscribers, regardless of their location, wireless carrier, handset or technology platform, can play against each other at the same table and compete for top rankings, resulting in a truly compelling peer-to-peer mobile experience.
The Texas Hold'em game, which was originally launched on QUALCOMM's BREW(R) platform in May 2004, has seen tremendous growth and has been given high rankings from Game Spy (Ten Cool Games for Your Cell phone, August 2004) and Wireless Gaming Review. With the BREW version now currently available on seven wireless carriers in the U.S., the game has quickly reached over 50,000 monthly recurring subscribers and continues to grow at a rate of 20% per month. To encourage ongoing growth, Summus continues to promote the game directly to consumers through targeted cable television advertising, consumer magazine advertising and online promotional efforts.
"Texas Hold'em by Phil Hellmuth has lived up to our expectations and broken numerous company records," said Gary Ban, CEO of Summus. "Early results of the J2ME game show that it will easily surpass revenue amounts earned from other applications in our J2ME suite of products.
Mr. Ban continued, "Summus earns recurring monthly revenue from each download of the game. Since Summus owns the content, this is a high margin product. With the addition of the J2ME version of the game, we expect the growth rate to compound as new carriers and handsets launch over the coming months. Furthermore, now that this version is available to the millions of poker aficionados that are customers of the J2ME carriers, we think that we will ultimately run the largest mobile community for Texas Hold'em over time.
"Summus is building a true multiplayer community through the game's website, www.hellmuthholdem.com. The website is a place that all BREW and J2ME players alike can view the leader board and discuss the game on the Hellmuth Message Board. Building a community of players around a multiplayer game is an important element, and Summus plans to incorporate similar features into other multiplayer games that we will be launching in the coming months."
Summus plans to grow its suite of games throughout 2005 by launching multiplayer games with blue-chip brands in the casino, classics and action categories. These other games will utilize Summus' innovative multiplayer game platform and artificial intelligence (AI) used in the development of Texas Hold'em by Phil Hellmuth.
