Giants Legend Harry Carson and Knicks Great John Starks Chat It Up with Fans Via Text
NEW YORK-- Jan. 31, 2005--
Ever wondered what it felt like to dunk over Michael Jordan or who was tougher to tackle, Walter Payton or Tony Dorsett? Answers to these questions are a text message away. Cell phone users with nimble thumbs in the tri-state region now have an opportunity to connect with sports legends through Mobile Text Chats.
In making the announcement, Upoc Networks CEO David Friedensohn said: "Upoc Networks moderated text chats are an ideal medium for professional sports franchises to increase interest in the team and connect with their fans. The chats are an extension of Verizon Wireless' sponsorship of the New York Giants and the New York Knicks and will be executed on Upoc Networks moderated mobile text chat platform.
Both chats will take place in February with Harry Carson's kicking off the week before the Super Bowl on Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. and John Starks' to follow on Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. as the culmination of a month-long celebration of Black History Month.
The chats are open to all fans with cell phones. Verizon Wireless users can join the chat with Harry Carson by texting OK to 2004. Anyone else can sign up by calling 800-506-3997. Verizon Wireless users can chat with John Starks by sending Chat to 2245. Users from any other carrier can join by calling 800-881-5145. Anyone who joins the chat with John Starks will automatically be entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win two tickets for a Knicks game and a chance to meet John Starks.
