Esmertec and LG Electronics Demonstrate Multi-Tasking Java Virtual Machine on a Mobile Handset

SAN FRANCISCO & DUEBENDORF-ZURICH, Switzerland-- June 27, 2005-- Esmertec(TM) (www.esmertec.com), a leading provider of software solutions for mobile phones and embedded devices and LG Electronics Ltd. (LGE), a major global player in electronics and telecommunications, announce a lead implementation of Esmertec's multi-tasking Java(TM) Virtual Machine on an LGE F2400 cellular phone.

The Jbed(TM) Advanced multi-tasking VM (MVM) leverages Esmertec's award-winning Fast Byte Code Compiler technology (FastBCC(TM)) and enables multiple applications (MIDlets) to run and be displayed concurrently on a handset. For example, the end user can be playing a game, switch to an Instant Messenger to send a message to another player, and then simply switch back and continue playing the game.

LGE's F2400 phone is a GPRS camera phone equipped with features including SMS, EMS, MMS, Email, Bluetooth, Java, WAP and USB port. This phone will be commercially available in the coming months.

Mr Lee Ji-Hoon, V.P. in Mobile Handset R&D Center from LGE says, "LG Electronics has gained a reputation in being at the forefront of bringing innovative technologies and products to the market. This demonstration is the product of a fruitful long-term collaboration with Esmertec, and we look forward to continue working with them to develop further handsets that can deliver end users a compelling experience."

"We are delighted to be able to demonstrate the opportunities that Java multi-tasking with Jbed Advanced can bring to mobile handsets," said Anne-Marie Larkin, CTO Esmertec. "We have worked closely with LG Electronics to implement such a solution and are pleased to be the first to demonstrate this together."
