Spirit Underground Selects QUALCOMM's GlobalTRACS(R) Wireless Equipment Management Solution
SAN DIEGO, QUALCOMM Incorporated
(Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading provider of wireless data solutions, today announced
that Spirit Underground LLC, an installer of underground utilities, is
outfitting its entire heavy equipment fleet with QUALCOMM's GlobalTRACS
equipment management solution. The GlobalTRACS solution collects critical
operational data that improves asset utilization and operational efficiency,
and helps prevent unauthorized use and theft of critical equipment.
"We chose to implement GlobalTRACS on our fleet of heavy equipment in part
because of its advanced theft prevention capabilities," said Dean Walker,
managing member of Spirit Underground. "In fact, just four months after
installing the technology we were able to recover both a stolen backhoe and a
loader, and have them back at the job site that same day. With the
GlobalTRACS system, we experienced a return on investment in a period of 24
hours."
QUALCOMM's GlobalTRACS solution has several features to enhance the
security of construction equipment, including automatic GPS positioning,
street-level location mapping and virtual security fence configuration. These
all represent valuable tools to contractors who must track expensive resources
in multiple locations and require constant up-to-the-minute updates. In
addition, GlobalTRACS provides critical engine-use data that helps contractors
monitor labor productivity, identify underutilized equipment, distribute
resources more efficiently and develop a maintenance program based on actual
usage.
"QUALCOMM is pleased to be working with Spirit Underground to help in the
effective management of the company's assets," said Larry Cleary, senior
director of construction equipment operations for QUALCOMM Wireless Business
Solutions. "By integrating the GlobalTRACS solution with its existing
equipment, Spirit Underground will be able to distribute equipment to job
sites more efficiently, as well as maximize utilization and improve labor
management."
The GlobalTRACS solution has ruggedized hardware, state-of-the-art network
services and extensive data integration capabilities. It collects, manages
and transmits equipment operating status and location data, all easily
accessible through a Web-based application or integrated into existing back-
end business software systems. QUALCOMM's Network Management Center, one of
the world's largest and most reliable wireless data networks, provides
wireless service and monitoring support for all GlobalTRACS-enabled equipment
and 24-hour customer service.
QUALCOMM is the industry's global leader in providing high-value wireless
data solutions with Network Operations Centers that process more than nine
million transactions each day. QUALCOMM has shipped more than 567,000
QUALCOMM mobile systems to businesses in 39 countries on four continents.
