Smertec And Rococo Software Collaborate to Enable Bluetooth And Java Technology For Mobile Devices

CTIA Wireless, New Orleans, USA – Esmertec™ (www.esmertec.com), a leading provider of software solutions for mobile phones and embedded devices, and Rococo Software (www.rococosoft.com), a leading supplier of wireless Java™ infrastructure and tools, announce their collaboration to deliver standards-based Java/Bluetooth technology for mobile devices.

The partnership enables mobile phone manufacturers and reference design houses to benefit from a single, integrated Java-to-Bluetooth API solution in Esmertec's Jbed™ environment. Rococo also offers Esmertec’s customers Impronto Simulator, a software development tool that lets developers build Java/Bluetooth applications without having real Bluetooth hardware connected. Consequently, developers can build, test and debug their Java/Bluetooth applications in a fully simulated environment.

“Esmertec is one of the leading VM (Virtual Machine) vendors in the marketplace and the combination of Rococo’s technology with Esmertec’s Jbed will accelerate JSR82 support in mobile phones and speed up the use of Bluetooth in handsets,” said Sean O’Sullivan, Rococo CEO. “Esmertec, with its award-winning Java runtime solutions and global presence, is an ideal partner to drive the adoption of this technology.”

“Delivering the Java Bluetooth API on Esmertec’s Jbed solution will enable content providers to implement richer and more interactive applications that generate more ARPU,” said Anne-Marie Larkin, CTO of Esmertec. “We are pleased to partner with Rococo, a leading innovator in Java Bluetooth technology and an active player in the evolution of the standard.”
