US Wireless Online Launches VoIP Platform
LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 21 -- US Wireless Online, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: UWRL - News; website: www.uswirelessonline.com), which owns and operates one of the nation's largest wireless Internet broadband networks, today announced the launch of its Voice over Internet Protocol ("VoIP") telephony service for small- to medium-sized businesses and institutions. The service, initially available in Columbus, Ohio, will be rolled out to customers in each of the eleven states in the Company's existing service area, including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas.
The Company has been upgrading its network and quietly preparing for the launch of the VoIP service offering during the past several months. Its system has been engineered to avoid many of the service problems inherent in earlier generations of VoIP offerings.
"As we continue to grow and expand our coverage area, one of our primary goals is to bring enhanced broadband products and services to each of our markets," commented Jai Bhagat, Executive Chairman of US Wireless Online. "Our VoIP launch is an excellent example of this strategy in action. With business spending on VoIP expected to more than double to $10.9 billion in the U.S. by 2009, we believe our Company is well positioned to capture significant VoIP market share in our growing markets."
"While we will aggressively market our bundled VoIP and data service offerings across our eleven state network, we will also continue to execute on our strategy to acquire like-minded companies that expand our footprint in North America and interconnect them to become the first 'coast-to-coast' wireless broadband solutions provider in the United States," stated Mark Rodgers, President of US Wireless Online.
"With the launch of our VoIP solution, US Wireless Online has become a fully integrated wireless voice and data communications provider, allowing the Company to have greater control over the quality of service and to provide customers with a better overall VoIP experience," commented Rick Hughes, CEO of US Wireless Online. "The combination of our new pre-WiMax wireless deployments with our VoIP-Max product is one of the first of its kind in the industry."
"Our soft switching platform was developed by VocalData," stated Thomas J. Busic, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of Engineering at US Wireless Online. "We selected VocalData because of its reliability, flexibility and scalability. VocalData is the only application developer to support all of the major IP protocols -- including SIP, MGCP, SCCP and MiNET -- allowing us to offer the widest range of phone and service choices to our customers. We are not locked in to supporting only the SIP protocol. Instead, we can implement a wide range of VoIP protocols, providing more flexibility in application delivery. To our knowledge, we are the only, 'pure play' wireless broadband provider to offer our own VoIP phone service."
"VoIP has become an increasingly popular -- and less expensive -- way of making telephone calls, using Internet technology instead of the circuit switching traditionally used by telephone companies," noted Michael D. Marlowe, Chief Development Officer and Senior Vice President of Marketing at the Company. "Our new bundled service offering, which includes both voice and data connectivity over a single Internet connection, will allow us to compete more effectively in each market. We have been pre-selling our VoIP service since February and, during the first week of pre-launch availability, installed our first 100 commercial seat customer (i.e. 100 telephone "lines"). Currently, our sales pipeline is very active as our VoIP offering is ideally suited for businesses and institutions that have multiple geographic sites and/or outdated phone systems. Given the value of our solution, our target customers include any organization seeking to reduce its monthly telephone costs."
