Professional Championship Wrestling and SmartVideo First to Bring Wrestling to Cell Phones Worldwide
ATLANTA & DALLAS-- May 11, 2005 -- Fans of professional wrestling, who've made the sport a television sensation since the late 1950s, can now enjoy all the entertainment and action of the sport on mobile devices anywhere. SmartVideo Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: SMVD) and Professional Championship Wrestling (PCW) of Dallas, Texas, today announced the launch of the first professional wrestling available via mobile television.
With this announcement, smartphone users worldwide have access to live, streaming PCW matches using proprietary technology developed by SmartVideo. These matches - featuring superstar athletes such as PCW World Champion Lance "Shadow" Hoyt, TV Champion Brett Anthony, Tag Team Champions The Dark Circle, Cruiserweight Champion G-Slice, General Manager Antonio, "Sexy" Steve DeMarco, "The Professional" John Allen, Jeremy Young, Mace Malone, Mike Foxx, Hotstuff Hernandez, BJ Turner and more - are now available to the estimated 50 million smartphone users and millions more PDA users around the world. The market for PCW - and other entertainment and news content - on mobile devices is only going to grow larger; market research by the ARC Group anticipates that number will increase to nearly 250 million by 2008.
"We are proud to be associated with PCW, and to be adding its content to our growing line-up of sports and entertainment programming," said Richard E. Bennett, president and CEO of SmartVideo. "Our proven mobile video services will help them extend their reach to the millions of smartphone users - and loyal wrestling fans - around the world."
SmartVideo delivers state-of-the-art, high-quality live television at a minimum of 15 frames per second (FPS), even to low-bandwidth devices operating on today's existing 2.5G cellular networks, and at least 24 FPS on current and planned 3G networks worldwide. The deal with Professional Championship Wrestling is the latest content agreement announced by SmartVideo, whose lineup includes Fox Sports, Fashion TV, ABC News, ABC NewsNow, NBC Universal (CNBC, MSNBC and NBC Mobile), The Weather Channel, IFILM, DIC Kid's Network and dozens more.
Michael Bussey, president of Professional Championship Wrestling, said, "No other wrestling promotion in the world is utilizing mobile video to bring matches to fans' cell phones. This new SmartVideo technology enables breakthrough, worldwide delivery of both live wrestling matches and five-minute recaps of previous matches, originating from the PCW Arena in Arlington."
