OVERLAND PARK, Kan., and LOS ANGELES, May 16 (E3 2005) -- Sprint (NYSE: FON) ups the fun factor of its mobile games by launching several new 3D games, offering new game categories, and celebrating one game reaching "double-platinum" status and two games earning "gold" status based on number of purchases.

3D Games
Sprint is now offering four 3D games that are available nationwide on the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network and plans to have several more 3D titles available by summer. The games will show off the stunning visual elements of Sprint's first two 3D-capable phones, the Sprint PCS Vision(SM) Multimedia Phone MM-535 by LG(R) and the Sprint PCS Vision(SM) Multimedia Phone MM-A800 by Samsung. Sprint plans to have up to five 3D-capable handsets available nationwide by the end of the year.

The 3D games available now are:
  • Brunswick Billiard Challenge by Bandai - a high-quality billiard game authorized by the most trusted brand in pool products

  • 3D Field Golf by Bandai - step onto the fairway in full-scale, full- polygon 3D

  • 3D Beach Mini Golf(TM) by Digital Chocolate - enjoy a round of relaxing mini golf in a 3D paradise

  • 3D Extreme Air Snowboarding(TM) by Digital Chocolate - experience the action of professional snowboarding in stunning 3D

The 3D titles for summer include:

  • Tron 2.0 3D by Disney - enter arenas and duel opponents to destroy enemy light cycles

  • Time Crisis Mobile (3D) by Namco - dispatch enemy targets and dodge fire in this thrilling shooter

  • Ridge Racer (3D) by Namco - shift into high gear with Ridge Racer 3D on mobile

  • PAC-MANIA (3D) by Namco - jump ghosts in this 3D sequel to PAC-MAN

  • JAMDAT Bowling 3D - enjoy 3D graphics, replays from six camera views, sophisticated controls and realistic physics that deliver the feel and fun of bowling.

"Our game partners have developed high-quality 3D games that are a great addition to Sprint's game offering to ensure we offer the best selection of games in the industry," said Jason Ford, general manager - Games, Sprint.

Games Reach Double-Platinum and Gold Status
Tetris(R) by JAMDAT is a winner with Sprint customers, reaching double- platinum status with more than two million downloads. Bejeweled by JAMDAT and PAC-MAN by Namco have earned gold status with more than 500,000 downloads. These games join the ranks of JAMDAT Bowling and Ms. PAC-MAN by Namco that went platinum and gold, respectively, in October 2004.

"These games are so popular because they're well-known titles that are fun, simple, usable and reliable," Ford said. "We are pleased to recognize JAMDAT and Namco for helping drive the popularity of mobile gaming and look forward to working with all our game partners to continue the phenomenal growth and loyalty we've built since Sprint launched its first game in August 2002."

    Growth in Games Industry
The U.S. mobile gaming market is expected to grow at a steady rate. According to In-Stat/MDR forecasts, mobile gaming users will increase from an estimated 10.6 million in 2003 to 78.6 million in 2009, and game downloads are expected to grow from 40.2 million in 2003 to 648.3 million by 2009. In addition, mobile game revenues are forecasted to increase from $91.3 million in 2003 to $1.8 billion, or 4.4 percent of all wireless data revenue, by 2009.

    New Game Categories
For the mobile game players who would rather spend less time searching for games and more time playing them, Sprint has unveiled new categories on its games deck. The new game categories, many unique in the mobile games industry, will make it faster and easier for Sprint customers to find the games they want to play based on interests and lifestyles. Whether you're standing in line for movie tickets with a couple minutes to kill or a hardcore gamer looking for a more challenging game-play experience, Sprint has the categories to help all game players find exactly what they're searching for. The new categories include:

  • Lite Fun - offering Scrabble(R) from JAMDAT, Hangman Tournament from Jsmart and other titles that are popular with women

  • Quick Play - find games like Block Breaker Deluxe from Gameloft and Bejeweled Multiplayer from JAMDAT that can be played in just a couple minutes

  • Games for Gamers - games such as Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory from Gameloft and Call of Duty(TM) from Mforma are best left to the pros

  • Only on Sprint - hot games exclusively offered to Sprint customers

The game categories that Sprint customers have become familiar with are still available, many with subcategories to speed up the game search. "Sprint works closely with its game partners to provide a variety of high- quality games that will interest gamers of all ages and skill level," Ford said. "The new categories will make it easier for customers to find what they want and will benefit our game partners by giving their games more visibility with listings in multiple categories."
