Defense Technology Systems Announces RFID Product Plan
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. -- May 24, 2005 -- Defense Technology Systems Inc. (OTCBB:DFTS) announced plans to release its Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system called "RFID Foundry" by the end of third quarter 2005. The RFID Foundry is a complete Sensor and RFID-based automatic sensing, identification and tracking system designed for commercial and military customers that require the rapid deployment of mission-critical positive identification and tracking capabilities. The RFID system utilizes off-the-shelf RFID readers and sensors with a middleware solution built on the Sun Microsystems Java RFID Software. The RFID system has been developed by the company's DCI subsidiary. Defense Technology recently acquired a majority interest in the twenty year old defense industry systems engineering firm as part of a sweeping redirection and revitalization plan.
The recently implemented revitalization and redirection plan leverages the Company's experience in providing digital communication infrastructure solutions to Fortune 1000 companies to expand into providing overall Homeland Security solutions to major metropolitan municipalities. To accelerate the plan, Defense Technology acquired a majority interest in DCI. Through this acquisition, Defense Technology has trailing twelve month revenue of $5 million. Management intends to build a comprehensive Homeland Security product portfolio through an ongoing acquisition campaign geared to transform DefenseTechnology into a significant participant in the Homeland Security and Defense sectors.
The RFID Foundry developed by DCI is built on a proven architectural road map and pre-built, pre-tested software components that minimize the complexity of RFID systems implementation while also reducing the implementation time and cost. The DCI-developed components provide very flexible layers of abstraction from the front-end RFID and sensors modules so that changes in communication technology and standards can be easily adopted with minimal business disruption. This abstraction layer provides the rapid adaptation capabilities for those changes while providing easy integration with enterprise applications. The RFID Foundry also provides a solid mission-critical infrastructure including dynamic configuration and proactive reporting capabilities that give decision makers an accurate picture of their situations. This provides the ability to dynamically re-configure their supply chain for speedy response and therefore lower their operating costs. Industry standards such as Java(TM) and XML are utilized for instant integration with other enterprise applications to exchange data and processes.
