WirelessDevNet.com Press Release

Canada Grants Key Mobile Marketing Application Patent to NeoMedia

FT. MYERS, Fla., November 4, 2005 – NeoMedia Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB: NEOM), an innovator in wireless services and patented PaperClick® technologies that provide automatic links to Internet-based information, said today that it has received an approval of a patent for an application vital to delivering information for mobile marketing and other applications from the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) in Quebec.

Charles W. Fritz, NeoMedia’s founder and chairman, said the patent corresponds to NeoMedia’s U.S. Patent No. 6,434,561 issued in August 2002, and is for a “Method and System for Accessing Electronic Resources via Machine-Readable Data on Intelligent Documents.”

The patent, said Mr. Fritz, deals with improved methods of converting information placed directly on a physical object into PC-readable data utilizing two-dimensional bar codes and various data compression techniques, along with software and desktop image scanners. Each 2 to 3-inch bar code can hold 2 to 3KB (equivalent to two or three printed pages), depending on the data compression technique used.

An example of how NeoMedia’s patented technology can be used is in reading a two-dimensional bar code on an ad, promotional brochure, or any other physical object. Then, using software and an image scanner -- and with or without linking to the Internet -- the user could easily and accurately import the linked information into an applications, such as Quicken®, Microsoft® Money, etc., or just directly onto their cell phone, PDA or personal computer.

Dr. Kevin Hunter, NeoMedia’s chief scientist, and Robert T. Durst, Jr., a consultant to NeoMedia, developed the technology for which this patent was issued.

‘Point-of-Purchase in Consumer’s Hand’
“Today,” said Mr. Fritz, “the point-of-purchase is right in the consumer’s hand. We believe the ability to read and process indexes and codes, to obtain desired information, comparison shop, etc., as performed by NeoMedia’s patented PaperClick technology platform, is a vital and central component to the growth of mobile marketing around the world.”

The issuance of this patent by the CIPO, said Mr. Fritz, “adds to NeoMedia’s already-strong global patent position, with those patents all holding well in court.”

The patented PaperClick family of mobile marketing services is immediately available to brand managers and marketing/advertising agencies, wireless carriers, and manufacturers of Internet-capable devices including cell phones, SmartPhones and PDA’s. Information is available from (630) 435-9200, Ext. 125, or by e-mailing info1@PaperClick.com.
