Flowfinity Wireless Launches Blackbird to Empower Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Developers
VANCOUVER, BC -- Flowfinity Wireless, a leading provider of wireless application products, today formally launched Flowfinity Blackbird, an add-on to Microsoft® Visual Studio® 2005, an advanced integrated development environment by Microsoft. Blackbird enables ASP.NET developers to create "Wireless-Ready" applications for BlackBerry®, from Research in Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM). Now, the over 3.5 million Visual Studio developers have a simple and cost-effective approach to develop applications for the over 3.5 million BlackBerry subscribers.
Blackbird was designed to benefit both users and developers, and the four major benefits are as follows:
Wireless-readiness built-in
Quality user experienc
Zero learning curve development approach
Low deployment costs
Wireless-Ready -- Applications created with Blackbird are resilient to loss of network coverage and are optimized for over-the-air data transfer.
Quality User Experience -- Applications created with Blackbird provide a familiar BlackBerry user experience with native look-and-feel and feature integration with BlackBerry email and address book.
Zero Learning Curve Approach -- Standard ASP.NET 2.0 controls are used for application development. No special developer training is required -- any Visual Basic or Visual C# developer can create their first BlackBerry application in minutes.
Lowers Deployment Cost -- Blackbird is available for developers at no charge, it only requires developers to use Visual Studio 2005, and no licensing fees are required for users of custom applications that are deployed. Applications can be deployed quickly and easily "over-the-air."
"We were very excited to learn that the new version of Visual Studio would enable us to seamlessly bridge the pre-existing developer skills and the special requirements of wireless application users," said Dmitry Mikhailov, CEO of Flowfinity Wireless. "Our customers and partners are equally excited, since so many of them rely on Microsoft development tools and the Microsoft .NET platform, and since BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds are increasingly common in today's enterprises."
Developers, whether in-house developers or within systems integration firms, are increasingly developing custom applications for both wired and wireless business users.
"Our customers need both web applications and BlackBerry wireless applications," said Tom Isabella, Vice-President, Application Development of ATSG, a system integrator based in Baltimore, Maryland. "With Visual Studio 2005 and Flowfinity Blackbird, we can build both application types from the same code base and within a single development environment. This is a win for both us and our customers."
Flowfinity is a member of Microsoft's Visual Studio Integration Partner (VSIP) program and is releasing Blackbird today in conjunction with Microsoft's worldwide launch of Visual Studio 2005.
The Blackbird product is available immediately for download from Flowfinity's web site.
